Germany Boosts Missile Production to Address US and Allied Air Defense Shortages

Date:

A new joint production initiative in Germany aims to alleviate severe shortages of Patriot air defense missiles currently straining United States stockpiles. Driven by intense global demand, including ongoing support for Ukraine and security commitments in the Middle East, Washington is facing production bottlenecks. In response, a joint venture between European missile manufacturer MBDA and American defense contractor RTX is establishing a manufacturing facility in Schrobenhausen, Bavaria. The European-based production effort will supply NATO allies with up to 1,000 Patriot interceptors, significantly easing pressure on American defense supply lines.

  • High global consumption, notably from conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, has strained U.S. inventories of critical air defense interceptors.
  • COMLOG, a joint venture between U.S. defense firm RTX and European missile maker MBDA, is expanding production capacity in Schrobenhausen, Germany.
  • NATO’s Support and Procurement Agency placed a contract valued at over $5 billion to procure up to 1,000 Patriot Guidance Enhanced Missiles (GEM-T).
  • The project establishes the first production line for Patriot missiles outside the United States, expanding allied industrial capacity.
  • European production is intended to shorten delivery timelines for regional allies while allowing U.S. defense facilities to focus on domestic and Indo-Pacific requirements.

  2. how many material need to be need for Germany or USA even both of them ? and how many company can make a missile fast so they can ship right and during a war ? and lasting what material came from and how can be more profit for it ?

  3. seriously, Germany should start to pivot away from US arms. there are enough European alternatives already and where not then there is a project going on to change that in the coming years.
the current US administration has proven many times they are more adversary than ally and given the dysfunctional US constitution paired with poorly educated citizens future US administrations might not be much different from the current one.
get away from US arms! swap US nuclear bombs for French bombs which cancels the need for F-35 fighter jets. don't make your next air defence frigate an AEGIS guided missile destroyer and don't buy tomahawks. wait for the European missile project.
don't buy any more Patriots and get SAMP/T NT. it can do the job as well.

  4. Blatant lies. US spending per year 1966 – 57B, 1980 – 138B, 2000- 320B, 2024 – 997B. Most of the rare earth for these minerals is refined in China, German still isn't producing patriots after 5 years of having the license. So this is a nonsense story

  5. It seems kind of pointless. Germany can just ramp-up Taurus production. I suppose if they want to sell to the USA something they find familiar, that's possible. But Germany could just upgrade Taurus for their own purposes, and crank-up production.
