Meta is facing significant legal and regulatory pressure following allegations that its platforms, specifically Instagram and Facebook, have contributed to a mental health crisis among younger users. Court proceedings and investigations have focused on claims that the company intentionally designed addictive features to maximize engagement among minors, despite internal research suggesting harmful psychological effects. As dozens of U.S. states pursue legal action, the company is under scrutiny for its platform design and the potential long-term impact of social media on adolescent development and well-being.

  • Dozens of U.S. states have filed lawsuits alleging Meta misled the public about the safety of its platforms for children.
  • The company is accused of using psychological triggers and manipulative algorithms to foster platform dependency in minors.
  • Internal documents previously indicated that Meta was aware of the negative impact Instagram had on the body image and mental health of teenage users.
  • Legal challenges seek to hold the company accountable for failing to provide adequate protections and age verification measures.
  • The ongoing litigation could lead to significant changes in how social media companies are regulated and how they design features for young audiences.

  4. When the penalty for breaking the law is only a few days worth of profits, its not really a penalty, its just the cost of doing business.

  5. The seven words this silly algorithm needs

  6. no phone means significant more work for the parents, that's how phones got into the hands of children to begin with. Video games was the problem of my generation but in a much smaller scale.

  7. god I hate facebook and hope it gets banned in the Philippines. People here think it's weird NOT TO HAVE f***ing facebook

  8. Yes it is addicting, FB 10 years ago seems you can scroll the bottom of your feed now its so endless

  9. A great verdict,we need to protect our children .

  10. Revenue is not earnings. I used to drive a truck and made 850k revenue, with 70k earnings. The interviewee must not know the difference.

  11. Good job. They took breakfast pocket money of 375m punishing platforms which makes Billions by damaging mentally half of the population on the planet earth. What punishment is this since they make this money for probably less than a day? Tapping on the shoulder ?

  12. They will use this case to push even more age verification

  13. PDFiles are ruling the world. Fine 375 million to a trillionaire is just an eye wash. Why don't you ban harmful company?

  14. From Australia πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί.
At last … let there be continuing scrutiny, and as and if necessary, the fullest application of relevant laws.

  15. Facebook is full of trash.

  16. This is fantastic news. As s parent I'm so happy to hear this.

  17. Meanwhile TicTok openly destroy teenage lives. Countries around the world should start give them massive fines like this.

  18. Good! It’s about time they were held accountable and big tech must be regulated!

  19. πŸŽ‰πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

  20. Why do you jump into a pool or a river because it's there. Why do you open Facebook because it's there you do it out of your own free will. Facebook doesn't force itself onto you.

  23. Marketplace ?

  24. Is important to keep an eye on this big companies, yet will always be people that just get harmed.

  25. All by p lan. A slap on the wrist and just i fication for more sur veillance

  26. 375 million dollars… a scratch for a company like meta. They're laughing

  27. Parents also need to stop buying kids iPhones, iPads. Parents give me every excuse why they cannot. Likely because the parents are also addicted. People, focus on what you can do to help your children. Yes, this verdict is important, but use common sense. And take a parenting course. Your kids do not need to like you. You are the parent. Please act like one.

  28. Just put a permanent global ban on all "social" media platforms that allows people to post their photos and exchange messages. This experiment has got to stop now.

If you want to exchange photos and message with other people around the world you will have to use WhatsApp or other similar applications that must first authenticate the user by requiring his/her original government registered cellphone number so that users know who they are talking to. And government institutions must have the authority to read the messages in case of criminal investigations.

Those who wants to exchange ideas and converse can use old school forums without the ability to post pictures of any human. All picture posted are scanned by AI on server and if a human is found the user is banned for sometime.

Internet mus be regulated. Absolute freedom was never the good option for society.

  29. Apparently, this video is not being recommended enoug. Its obvious why

  30. $375m . . . They blow their noses in that much money every day . . . what a waste of effort . . it will do absolutely nothing to curb their behavior.

  31. Good start but should’ve been much higher. They spent 2 billion on lobbying to move the age verification requirements to OS level and away from them

  32. It would be better to have a discussion about parental responsibility. Yes, social media has issues but can also be a power for good when used correctly. If children are accessing parts of the Internet not meant for them, then parents must accept their lack of control. How many give their children a phone at a ridiculously young age? How many of those monitor their child's use of the phone? I am not against children accessing the Internet. As a retired teacher, I know the benefits. However, I also know how little children understand about its dangers. Parents should make the effort to (a) find out about these dangers, (b) ensure that their children are taught about this, and (c) monitor their child's use of the Internet. I am tired of the way the supposed freedom of the Internet, freedom for adults, is attacked because unparented children have to be protected. Parents should do their job. Responsible parents do! Yes, companies like Meta have some responsibility, but they are the easy target. How many parents are held responsible in large part for any mental health issues suffered by children?

  33. Drug dealers have more integrity than Meta

  34. They have harmed children, adults, and society itself

  35. American courts are a clown show.
I'm waiting eagerly to see bicycle manufacturers brought to justice for their exposing the children to falls. Knowingly.

  36. Zuckerberg will just laugh it off and keep doing what his been doing. He doesn't give a two hoots, it's all about the bottom line.

  37. the penalty sum is pitiful

  38. EU will have field day with this.

  39. Only 3 million dollar fine wow

  40. It's not even a speed bump. The judgment can paid off in a matter of seconds. Billionaires are a plague on our nation.
