I totally disagree with MR. Daadler argument. We don't need NATO. NATO was created to provide for the collective defense against any future Russian (Soviet) aggression in Europe. One could argue that NATO's ability to stop and further Russian aggression, would prevent the U.S. from being dragged into another World War in Europe.
For those who never serve in the military, particularly the U.S. Army, the European defense plan depended heavily on the airlifting of Army divisions in as quickly as our early warning systems could see movement of Soviet Block Armies advancing toward then, West Germany. The defense plan could never depend on the ability of French Forces rushing to meet the enemy, nor any significant British Forces moving across the channel. Don't get me wrong the British had a military presence in then Western Germany. However you must keep in mind that presence depended on how many Soldiers they could count on from Ireland, Scotland and Whales (that is why they call it the United Kingdom).
So please tell me how it is that we need to be a partner of NATO????????
