Trump Administration Authorizes Firing Squads for Federal Executions

Date:

The United States Department of Justice has amended its execution protocols to permit federal executions using methods other than lethal injection. This rule change allows the federal government to utilize alternative methods such as firing squads and electrocution, provided these methods are legal in the state where the sentence was handed down. The decision aims to provide more flexibility for carrying out the death penalty, particularly when the drugs required for lethal injection are unavailable or subject to legal challenges.

  • The new Department of Justice rule expands the list of authorized federal execution methods.
  • Alternative methods now include the use of firing squads and electrocution.
  • The choice of method is determined by the laws of the state where the defendant was sentenced.
  • The amendment is intended to address ongoing difficulties in obtaining lethal injection drugs.
  • This policy change follows an increase in the number of scheduled federal executions.

  1. The US is among the top ten countries worldwide carrying out executions. During his first term, President Donald Trump resumed executions for federal crimes, after a nearly 20 year pause. The death penalty is legal in more than two dozen US states, and five states already allow executions by firing squad.

  2. It does make sense. All other execution methods are being sabotaged by loudmouthed activists with the result that people convicted to death are waiting for their execution in death row for decades, which is inhumane in itself.

  3. Economically most americans are tired of seeing so much money being spent keeping murderers, grapists and pedo's alive for their entire lives. Getting rid of the worst people in a society isn't a bad thing. The Europeans did it until recently and act as though they haven't done it for 500 years. Just watch…one serious economic recession and Europeans will be demanding capital punishment to save money instead of spending on the worst people in their societies.

  4. I am on the fence with this, but I do think that in extreme cases which have been proven beyond the shadow of a doubt, it can be justified as long as it is quick. Would free up spaces in prison and reduce crime.

  6. Individual states have made the decision to bring back death by firing squad, not the administration. I know this is probably a hard concept for you krauts to grasp but the states can decide for themselves on many issues absent the federal government. Jesus, Fritz be better at lying if you're gonna do it so blatantly. maybe block the Americans you're lying about from seeing your garbage. I know how you love your censorship over there.

  7. 14:55
"hong kong and Singapore, it was found having the death penalty in Singapore didn''t make any difference to the homicide rates"
There is strong support from these countries on death penalty despie it being a draconian law.
There is a 2023 survey indicated that majority of Singaporeans agrees the death penalty is an effective deterrent for trafficking and 90.2% for firearm/murder offences.

  8. Why interview a guy about capital punishment in the US who completely fails to describe or mention the main problems with it? The biggest omission here is about how its applied – it's an extortion tool to extract confessions rather than punish the "worst murderers" (a pro-death penalty narrative he blindly repeats ad nauseum). In practice the worst murderers often get a plea deal where they're spared the death penalty, whereas people who refuse to take the plea deal and insist on their innocence get executed. Even mass murderers who confess get plea deals to avoid a highly publicised trial (which is ridiculous), and serial killers get plea deals to reveal information about victims. It's in practice decisively NOT given to the "worst murderers".

  9. As an American, I'm absolutely not in favor of capital punishment. As long as the justice system can make mistakes, then capital punishment should never take place. I resent this speakers bravado around American's acceptance of capital punishment.

  10. “…standing with victims”: that is quite rich and reeds quite absurd and grotesque if you consider that Trump has pardoned over 1,000 convicted felons for crimes in the storming of the Capitol and is now considering pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell.

  11. Underneath the modernity and capitalism, the US is basically a barbaric society. Not everyone, but certainly this class of elites, who hold power in money and politics. The worrying part is these barbaric folks are gaining on the sane folks, as institutions are undermined, with substantial democratic backsliding.

  12. Trump is one of the great fools in history, but I actually think firing squad better illustrates what’s actually taking place; a killing. Lethal injection lets you pretend it’s some kind of medical procedure

  13. 21:10 He must speak a different language than me, in English, "simply taking part in protests" doesn't mean "running over ICE officers, kicking the lights out of law enforcement vehicles, and resisting arrest."

  14. How dare we replace the million dollar pharmaceutical product with one that costs .50 cents, and accomplishes the same goal. Big Pharma will not be able to buy their gold plated shark tank.

  15. My dad’s great grandparents were born in Germany and emigrated to the US. Is he entitled by German law to German citizenship, and could he help me get out of the US, if need be? I know that Italy has changed similar laws in the last couple years regarding great grandparents. Both of my parents are half German by descent, and half British/ Irish.
