At the last WHO press conference, it was said that one the reason public health officials didn't caught it early is because this strain presents the same early symptoms as Malaria which is endemic in the region. Containing it is difficult because public health officials cannot administer ring vaccination to curb the spread as it is done with other strains of Ebola because there is no cure for this strain.
