Armenian Voters Support Prime Minister’s Shift Toward Europe Despite Pressure From Russia

Date:

Armenian voters are increasingly supporting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s strategic pivot toward the European Union, signaling a significant shift away from the country’s traditional ally, Russia. Despite intense political and economic pressure from Moscow, public sentiment in Armenia favors deeper integration with Western institutions. This geopolitical realignment follows growing domestic dissatisfaction with Russia’s security guarantees following the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.

  • Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is leading Armenia toward closer political and economic integration with the European Union and Western partners.
  • The shift is largely driven by domestic frustration over Russia’s perceived failure to support Armenia during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
  • Moscow has exerted political and economic pressure on Yerevan to maintain its traditional influence in the South Caucasus region.
  • Armenian citizens and voters have shown increasing support for democratic reforms and a Western-facing foreign policy.
