FT Documentary Details Palantir’s Expansion Into Government Defense and Healthcare Systems

Date:

Palantir Technologies, the data analytics firm co-founded by billionaire Peter Thiel, is expanding its reach from defense and intelligence operations into public service infrastructure. The company recently secured a controversial £330 million contract to manage the UK National Health Service’s (NHS) Federated Data Platform, sparking debate over data privacy and corporate procurement. Originally backed by the CIA’s venture arm, Palantir’s software is heavily utilized in military targeting, including in Ukraine, while its pivot to healthcare raises significant questions about the balance between operational efficiency and public trust.
  • Palantir was founded in 2003 with early investment from the CIA’s venture capital firm, In-Q-Tel, to develop software for counter-terrorism and national security.
  • The company’s data integration platforms, Gotham and Foundry, allow clients to synthesize massive, disparate datasets for real-time analysis and decision-making.
  • Palantir’s technology plays an active role in modern military conflicts, providing critical intelligence and targeting capabilities currently used by Ukrainian forces.
  • The firm’s expansion into civilian sectors includes a controversial £330 million contract to run the UK National Health Service’s Federated Data Platform.
  • Advocates for data privacy and civil liberties have raised concerns regarding the NHS deal, citing Palantir’s defense origins and questioning the long-term protection of sensitive patient data.
  • CEO Alex Karp maintains a pro-Western stance, openly aligning the company’s mission with the defense and security objectives of democratic allies.
  • The Financial Times is a British daily business newspaper printed in broadsheet and also published digitally that focuses on business and economic current affairs.

    2. These videos are silly. How come no one complains about the Other Defense Primes that literally makes the weapons that laterally kill people. Americans are mad that an American company was able to build one of the best software in the world. The anger should be directed at government agancies and how they use the software not at Palantir

    3. The big point here is that government has the data already but is incapable of doing anything meaningful with it. Palantir figured out how to solve that problem. Get rid of them and another company will fill the space. Once your data is digitised it's too late to fret about how it's used.

    4. The first four minutes of this bigoted, biased b_tch & moan session is hard but I will muddle thru it. Inaccurate already from some lightweight person who really hasn't done research on the tech OR SURVEILLANCE TECHNOLOY. He focuses on more bigots playing likeability and revenge politics against ppl they don't like vs the ppl who make the decisions to vote, investigate and get it removed. Puts a dig on a state as if the state is the owner where their fellow bigoted founder MOVED ITS HQ to Colorado a long time ago and now headed to Miami. He goes where he can abuse the locals the most and for free to his business. They are not organized. They are a group using lies to point at some but others get a bypass bc "they like them"/ They are inaccurate about political leanings and more.

It is sickening when an organization like FT thinks just bc they found out and the right faces for their video is available. Basic searches, research and deeper, probing questions and not just info to support the direction of this video would unfold it. Its not the only surveillance tech being abused. As a matter of fact it actually is not the surveillance tech, it takes data from that tech and provides information to ppl who abuse it. None of you are really brave enough nor do you really want to go after the political figures/govt agencies/legal & law/defense & natsec who can make the decisions to limit use or get rid of it. Every country needs intelligence, you won't see any getting rid of all their analytics, surveillance, and geographical platforms but you can stop them from abusing it.

    5. This is an empty video, little or no info, analysis. Just some talking heads and other making unsubstantiated allegations. I expect better than this from the FT.

    6. As an early PLTR investor, these comments show how sick us Americans are. Its not about the stock, it's about the company and our freedoms. If you cant criticize something you own and hold you are ignorant to the risks that company imposes. Genocide is more important than your brokerage account, if you don't agree you lost the plot.

    7. ten years ago i interviewed with palantir because it was recruiting graduates from ivy league universities who interned at top companies. i remember trying to conduct due diligence on it and all that was public was that it was a tech company with some ties to government organizations…..

    8. What's funny is Dr. Karp recently spoke on how frontier labs are stealing enterprises' Alpha, and guess what Apple's Tim Cook did today. He Sued Open AI for stealing IP. LOL WIthout Palantir there is no future. Do the research and learn for yourself

    9. the left are afraid of Palantir because it exposes all their fraud like USAID, funny that rap has completely dropped off same with black streamers, and Latin America is now going "right wing" enjoy the future we are barrelling towards, no more free rides

    10. i think we should just let the NHS to go back to the old model, and all that awesome service & value..Just protest & complain..

yes, use all those world class health software providers ? I'm sorry can you name them ? name the software solution architecture & applications ?

UK has zero long term growth prospects, its funny you left the EU right as you all became EU anti technology..

    11. American have been saving your asses so many times throughout our history because of our innovation and creativity like Palantir. You EU people should embrace it instead of these garbage talk.

    12. I agree with the concerns being a well traveled highly educated male who started life some, just about 79 years ago, prior to all this concentrated knowledge. The opinions of the youth who is it appears everyone speaking are wonderful. The Internet is wonderful and the data I get from artificial intelligence (AI), not actual intelligence, Also AI from experienced humans, is good. I state good, not great. However, there is there non conscious or maybe trait for clicks not truth that calls my most not united land America! People still want to shake hands despite the origin of centuries past for this habit. Spouting so called 'truth' while not realizing your own ignorance's leads me to doubt the youthful voices. My country is OF and not IS america. We are not united. We are separate States. Look at your own bias prior to spouting 'wisdom'! Humans advanced far enough without more immediate data recall. Seems more attention is needed on humans living together on a fragile planet called Earth is needed and leaving the 'star' to be as they have been.

    13. I don't buy into many of the comments here. It might be Palantir is a data collection/analysis tool but in the eyes of much of the world outside the US, it is feeding a dictatorship still threatening to take over Greenland. It's a clever product but in the wrong hands – a bit like the punched card reader IBM sold to the Nazis.

    14. I am not palantir fan but this documentary feel weird, it start with someone saying human right activist, data scientist, etc have a problem with Palantir, so I would expect a data science arguments againt the company but the arguments that follow are only about human rights, then the anonymised guy from the NHS saying that Palantir is not good value for the tax payer, I would expect to hear how it doesn't provide value or is too expensive, but the argument is that Palantir is toxic.

    15. No one calculates Palintir advancement. Too many believe hype was up. Thats goofy. Nay sayers only play their game. WHAT DO THEY BUILD? a few months of notoriety. This is a company that's GOOD.

    16. The real question is USING Ai tools. That opportunity is full in all fields.

If you were running a train and all you needed to do was have an enity in design that assures. Well, as Alex alludes we are well in it. Our safety is well. This is a leader. Palinter is that asset you want to have.

    17. Easy answer..did they expose or hide the excess deaths from Midazolam OD at NHS to see if good or bad for people in UK.. I think Andrew Bridgen was keen to expose and was sacked .. GSK and pharmacovigilence is conflict of interest wrr hiding or highlighting harm to reduce risk of other injuries

    18. Ive finished watching the video, and still waiting for a reason not to use Palantir. Nobody gave a reason or explanation how or why the data isnt sovereign anymore, gave no examples of lacking security or concerns. Its all just "they like Trump" or "they help ICE". So what? The one person said "what they're doing isnt very complicated", but then fails to mention a single other company on earth that can do the same thing. What a pointless video. Seems like just a bunch of lefties throwing a hissie
