Anti-Trafficking Operations Work to Protect Girls Along the India-Nepal Border

Date:

Human trafficking across the open border between India and Nepal remains a critical challenge, with thousands of vulnerable young women and girls targeted annually. Perpetrators often use false promises of employment, marriage, or better living conditions to deceive victims. Non-governmental organizations and border authorities have established monitoring checkpoints along key crossing points to identify potential victims, interview travelers, and prevent illegal border crossings before individuals are transported into forced labor or sex trafficking networks.

  • The open border between Nepal and India allows citizens of both nations to cross without a visa, facilitating illegal trafficking routes.
  • Traffickers frequently target young women and girls from rural or economically disadvantaged backgrounds with fake offers of employment or marriage.
  • Interceptors from anti-trafficking organizations monitor major border checkpoints to question travelers and identify signs of deception or coercion.
  • Intercepted individuals are provided with temporary shelter, counseling, and assistance to safely return to their families or communities.
  • Cross-border cooperation between law enforcement agencies and civil society groups remains essential to dismantling trafficking syndicates.

  1. Crimes committed against women and girls are the most heinous and punishable. We as a society need to stand up and be ready to fight crimes like human trafficking, and do our part, instead of just depending on the police to do the right thing. A society without ensured safety of women and children is not a society worthy of existence. And to create that society, we all have to fight in our own ways pertaining to our own capabilities. We have to save our daughters and sisters 🙏🙏

  2. terrible situation and should be telecasted not just in between ind and Nepal but also many other countries ex:between USA and world. DW News is more interested only in Indian society after the german😂 such a shame that DW News doesn’t covered not even a single thing about the protests in PoK, 140 innocent local people already brutally killed by the Pakistan Military and dead still raising, still ind and Nepali border trafficking is more more important than those PoK 140 people lives which is happening live in PoK. Such a shame… what kind of journalist society that we r living in…such a shame. Shame on DW news

  3. Honestly how many people here believe that the trafficker will be charged in court and sentence? Do you still think that Indian Police is corruption free? All the hard work by the NGO will seem futile in the end 😢😢😢😢😢😢

  4. It takes the whole village to save these girls, from those in authorities receiving bribes to those buying these girls or use their services to those in the streets closing their eyes to their plight.

Thank you DW for bringing awareness to this issue.

  5. I travelled around that area in the late 1980's and the same things was happening then at that time near New Delhi railway station you could see young Nepalese girls being prostituted 🤬

  6. The conditions in India are so terrible that people are forced give away their own children to such heinous things. Instead of stopping such terrible crimes, the Indian government is using all it’s police force towards brutality against protesting students
