Russia Releases Former US Marine Trevor Reed in Prisoner Swap With the United States

Date:

Russia has released former United States Marine Trevor Reed in a high-profile prisoner exchange with the U.S. following nearly three years of detention in Moscow. Reed was convicted in 2020 on charges of endangering Russian police officers, which he and American officials strongly disputed. In return, Washington released Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko, who was serving a 20-year federal sentence for drug smuggling. The exchange was carried out in Turkey after months of diplomatic negotiations, representing a rare moment of bilateral cooperation amidst heightened geopolitical tensions.

  • Reed had been serving a nine-year sentence for allegedly assaulting police officers, charges he and U.S. authorities rejected.
  • In exchange, the United States freed Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko, who was convicted in 2011 for conspiracy to smuggle cocaine.
  • The prisoner swap was facilitated in Turkey following discrete diplomatic negotiations between Washington and Moscow.

  2. If Putin had said "nyet" to Trump's request, Trump would have likely taken it as a personal insult. As far as Trump assaulting NATO, that was because EU member countries were not contributing their fair share of their required minimum economic burden. Subsequently, the EU has been cajoled into accelerating monetary and military defenses. As for the commentator, he sounds more of a political leftist than a historian. In 2016, candidate Trump was challenged by Senator Hillary Clinton during a Presidential debate about how he manipulated/used bankruptcy law. Trump responded, by pointing the finger back at her, and said that it was Congress that makes the law, and that if she did not like it she should act to change it. However, she won't, because her colleagues also benefited from it. JUST SAYING…

  3. Soon we will probably hear about a "new peace deal" Trump "came-up with".. one that forces Ukraine to cede not just Donbass, but another 30% of the country, plus, FULL demilitarisation and a "Russian-speaking" president for Ukraine.. oh, and Ukraine will have to "pay reparations" not only to Russia, but also to cover the costs of Iran war.. a "perfect deal" as the Orange One would say..
On a more serious note, Trump NEVER does ANYTHING for "free", so I've no doubt that him and Putin had some "unspoken understanding" of Trump getting fully behind Russia once again.. or, even more likely, Trump probably promised Putin to get his oil to foreign markets and forbid Ukraine from striking Russian tankers..

  4. "If i scratch your back, u do the same for me"

That's the context of pushers working together. That's how guy's can hold blocks . Political stuff is just street stuff but on a higher level.

  5. Some of the commentors are missing the point. I do not think anyone is really saying Trump should not have secure the man's release but is questioning if favours were negotiated. And if so, what are these favours.

  6. Trump's gonna say he got an American for free because how good relationship he has with Putin while he should say the American shouldn't have been tortured, drugged and starved in the first place. And MAGA will aplaude Trump's failings.

  7. it's the work of the US president to free the wrongfully detained US citizens over sees, this does not prove that he is a ''russian asset'', a decent country shall not abandon its citizens oversees, let alone its soldiers and the members of its army

  8. It’s just took a call? After four years in Russian prison, he’s just making the call now? Should we be impressed? I would say it leaves a very clear mark on Donald Trump as incompetent in any which way, corrupt and incompetent…..
