Singlife Study Finds Critical Illness Recovery Costs in Singapore Can Reach Nearly S$170,000

Date:

A recent study by financial services company Singlife indicates that individuals in Singapore diagnosed with a critical illness may face nearly S$170,000 in total recovery expenses. The financial burden extends beyond immediate hospitalization to include specialized therapies, rehabilitation, medication, and daily living expenses during extended periods away from work. The findings highlight potential shortfalls in personal financial safety nets, emphasizing the gap between basic health insurance coverage and the actual costs required to support comprehensive long-term recovery.

  • A Singlife study estimates that recovery costs for a critical illness in Singapore can reach approximately S$170,000.
  • Projected costs include out-of-pocket medical treatments, therapy, caregiving, and ongoing lifestyle adjustments.
  • Loss of income during the recovery timeline represents a major portion of the financial strain experienced by patients and their families.
  • The report underscores the need for adequate critical illness coverage and financial planning to protect against substantial post-diagnosis expenses.

  1. A quick painless death is more humane and its a blessing than a prolong pain and suffering while still breathing seeing your hard earned savings got scrapped for nothing …. Period !!!!

  2. The locals can die in their country.
But cannot afford to get sick.
While truly First World countries take care of its citizens.
    Here for the locals.
    Is you DIE.
    Your own Business.
Who did the locals voted for?🤭

  3. The real every day sg: What's important Singapore became a multi-nation country, a multi-nation-singapore so even with all the saf soldiers also no use totally, it's the pap party mistakes and there's no way to U-turn back. No more one nation, one people, one singapore, but a multi-nation people and no more singapore, but a multi-nation-singapore, all are the sg fishy pap party mistakes & there's no way to u-turn back of course.

  4. Previously who said must take the jabs? I never take any brand of the jab previously until now also never jab, and that's why never sick before, as majority people said after they took the jabs previously but nowadays they only became more and more easily to fall sick, it's the pap party mistakes and there's no way to u-turn back of course.

  5. Who be the fishy Pm (past and present) also no use totally, majority people said they choose the fishy pap party but only getting more and more sufferings and problems from the pap party always of course, pap party not ashame and continue doing their own ways?

  6. The fishy pap party holding all the money and own self collect own self 's highest pay etc., but only gave singaporeans a little money the pap party call helping the people, pap party not ashame?

  7. As people still gathering/traveling, don't forget it's always a matter of time before the next biggest spike in cases, and it's those people last travel of their lives of course.

  8. that's why IP and critical illness plan is so paramount ….nowadays it's hard not to get a critical illness statistically….how many can live a healthy life and pass away peacefully in their sleep ?

  9. S$170,000 in costs even with proper hospitalisation insurance coverage? Sounds like marketing BS to get people to overspend on insurance.

The bulk of the treatment expenses of S$4,922 x 27 months should be covered by insurance. Why is it being labeled as additional costs? What does the "out-of-pocket" medical expenses consist of? That's S$1,335 per month (assuming same period of 27 months), not a small sum when proper hospitalisation and medical insurance should be covering most of the cost apart from co-shared expenses which should be capped.

  10. In Singapore, you can afford to die, but cannot afford to fall sick. So take your health more seriously than your taste buds. Don't eat all kind of tasty rubbish just to satisfy your tongue but clot your gut.

Anyway, just accpet death as a course of life. Why make your life so miserable? Just go lah. End fo story and suffering. You can delay death but cannot avoid death. Why make your life and others’ so painful. Just go lah. End of story. Which living thing don't die, unless you are a tree.

Singaporeans should learn to take death more chill. Cling on to 20% life for what? 80% can never come back already, expired already. I hope to die quickly. Suffer less. Don't like to drag and drag. That’s just so stupid.
