South Africa continues to experience rising anti-migrant sentiment and xenophobic violence, primarily fueled by severe economic challenges, high unemployment, and inadequate public service delivery. Grassroots groups and vigilante organizations have increasingly targeted foreign nationals and their businesses, blaming them for local economic struggles. Analysts emphasize that porous borders, systemic governance issues, and political rhetoric have compounded tensions, leading human rights organizations to urge authorities to address the underlying socioeconomic drivers and protect vulnerable immigrant communities from unlawful harassment.
- High national unemployment rates and economic stagnation are primary drivers fueling competition for jobs and resources.
- Vigilante organizations and local activist groups have conducted targeted campaigns against foreign-owned shops and undocumented migrants.
- Foreign nationals frequently face barriers to legal documentation, healthcare, and police protection amid escalating community tensions.
- Critics contend that political figures frequently use anti-immigrant rhetoric to deflect public scrutiny from broader governance and service delivery shortfalls.
- Human rights advocates continue calling for systemic economic reforms and the rule of law rather than scapegoating foreign residents.

Who knows. But in a world where land, resources and opportunities are limited it should be the prerogative of any state to put the interests of its people first. More people equals more competition for those already mentioned limited things.
Why south africa has no presence in permanent seat in UNSC security council?? Because UN is xenophobic. They only molest africans historically.
South Africa has become a nation of entitled people. That explains the greed , corruption and bad attitude.
Probably some us grant givers
Illegal immigration, people coming in to take our non skilled jobs, people turning our inner cities into dumps…you can be as politically right as you like, forward we go!!
08:18 man.. that reminds me of the 1930s in Germany. scary
I thought only white people were anti immigration???
Peaple who are iligel have now richt to be there
09:05 imagine if he was white and said that
9:05 The guy talking doesn't know how to run a shop business for sure. he should hire back the previous Ethiopian owner
Illegal immigration is undesirable in every functioning country. South Africans are just more prepared to do something about it, and rightly so.
South Africa is neither xenophobic nor afrophobic. Its citizens don’t want their country to be yet another failed African state. Is Europe racist for protesting against illegal migration? Your bias when it comes to illegal migration in South Africa is astonishing. Your editorial framework needs to be reviewed and revised. Where is your editor-in-chief in all of this.
maybe, just maybe people are harmed by illegal immigration? xD
maybe besides profiting there is also the aspect of doing harm?
have you considered that?
Let's wait for South Africa's "Cut the tall trees." moment.
Haiti #2. A failed state. Who in their right mind would want to live to SA?
The extreme far Left is driving it with all the chaos they cause
The world in which we live is solely God's gift to all humanity and anyone on earth should fulfill his/her destiny anywhere. No human being has legal rights enough to ask another human being out of a space on earth. I hear people say things like "our" country, "our" jobs, "our" resources, "illegal" this and that and it gets me wondering what makes a mere beneficiary of God's gift to be so entitled to the gift.
Natural disasters and wars have removed people from where they once called "our country" to completely new and safer locations because the world belongs to all humans. We are all pilgrims in and pilgrims don't claim entitled to anything. Greed and self-centeredness is human nature and SA attitude is a glaring example of the century on the continent.
Hospitality, love and tolerance is the least a human being should show to a fellow human in view of God's unconditional generosity to us all.
SHALOM 🙏
bro!? the police were just chilling while the guy was removed kinda scary ngl. was he even undocumented? how can you reach South Africa from Ethiopia except through an airport?
