Canada’s Retaliatory Tariffs on US Goods Take Effect

Date:

Canada has enacted retaliatory tariffs on a range of United States goods in response to US duties placed on Canadian imports. The reciprocal trade measures target major American products, including steel, aluminum, and various consumer items. Government officials indicated that the retaliatory measures are designed to mirror the economic impact of US tariffs while limiting harm to domestic industries. Business associations and trade analysts have expressed concern that the ongoing dispute could disrupt bilateral supply chains and lead to higher costs for consumers in both countries.

  • Canada officially implemented retaliatory tariffs on selected imports from the United States.
  • The targeted items include steel and aluminum products, alongside selected agricultural and consumer goods.
  • The value and scope of the Canadian duties are structured to match the financial impact of US trade measures.
  • Business and industry leaders have warned that the tariffs could increase prices and affect cross-border supply chains.
  • Canadian authorities stated the countermeasures will remain in effect until US trade restrictions are resolved.

  1. Opinion of a Canadian here. When Trump goes off like this it means we hit a nerve. Canada is living in his head rent free as it were. It means we need to exploit it, twist the knife. His Republican house members up for re election must be screaming bloody murder. Trump always tries to get all menacing just before he tacos. I don't even care if he holds the line. Bring it on. He could cannot break us, we will never be American!

  2. Trump's tariffs have nothing to do with economics or trade policy. Absolutely nothing. They are a tool to establish dominance over nations, including the United States, and increase his personal power. In this, he greatly resembles his admired friend Vladimir Putin, who tries to achieve the same thing through violence. Both are narcissistic, authoritarian bullies who hope to stay in power forever. In truth, they are allies against democracy and liberal values. Like all bullies they must be stood up to, whether that be in Washington, or the fields of Ukraine. Lead Mr. Carney, just lead. We are ready to follow!!!

  3. I have Faith that Canadians will always be relentlessly Civilized and Rational.
Trump is a completely different Kettle of Fish . . . know one really knows how Iran or the Euro-Right or Russia-Ukraine or China will go :
    Anything is possible . . . Stay Tuned . . .

  4. That “powerful neighbor” holds the cards aholes, and if Canada doesn’t wake up fast, they are going to look like a 3rd world country.
They had a fair deal, then started crying for more…F’em. BTW…Ohio isn’t a swing state, it’s RED, and getting redder 👍🇺🇸

  5. I wouldn't want to give money to someone trying to take my country and keeps going back on their word. In 2018 Trump showed off his trade agreement with Canada, by 2025 he said it was a horrible deal and he didn't know who set it.

  6. Tariffs won't stop rump… Cutting Canadian exports of steel- electricity – minerals and metals – potash – softwoods – natural gas oil… All these products are essential to the American economy and by denying all, or some of them the impact on American industry and American citizens would be immediate and severe. Trump may say the US does not need Canadian products by when they dry up American citizens, not Trump and his minions, will pay he price….. Shut them out of the US economy for week or so and watch to see if the Americans farmers, manufacturers and household react: nationwide panic when households loose power, farmers can't plant, factories run out of supples…. Tariffs won't do it but product denial, hardball in Trump's own words, can do it.

  7. Here some news facts, last month Canada down -46,000 jobs, unemployment 7.9% , USA up +169,000 jobs, unemployment 4.1%. Also Canada has 1/10 US population and average income 2/3 of USA, taxes are double USA. It’s not a contest they can win, 66% of exports go to USA, 16% go to Canada, mostly car parts, Food and fuels.
