Telegraph Journalist Reports on Iran’s ‘Mosquito Fleet’ in the Strait of Hormuz

Date:

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) continues to utilize its “mosquito fleet” of small, high-speed attack boats to maintain a heavy presence in the Strait of Hormuz. This asymmetric naval strategy focuses on using agile, armed vessels to monitor international shipping and project power in one of the world’s most vital maritime chokepoints. By employing swarming tactics, these boats provide Iran with a low-cost means of challenging larger naval vessels and controlling the flow of commercial traffic through the narrow waterway, which remains a focal point for regional security tensions.

  • The “mosquito fleet” consists of numerous small, fast-moving boats operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
  • These vessels are designed for asymmetric warfare, allowing Iran to counter traditional navies through swarming tactics.
  • The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime corridor, facilitating the passage of roughly one-fifth of the world’s daily oil consumption.
  • Iranian forces regularly use these boats to shadow and intercept commercial tankers and Western military ships passing through the region.
  • The fleet serves as a key component of Iran’s coastal defense strategy and its ability to influence international maritime security.

  1. There are no weapons of mass anything . This war has been a massive wealth transfer . Whether from Europe and asia buying US oil , consumers paying more for gas, or military companies winning big contracts and a massive budget increase .

  2. Funny how 2 nuclear countries are threatening to nuke Iran into the stone age unless they abandon abandon a nuclear program that does not exist. Who must we be afraid of, Iran or these 2 aggressors?

  3. Dude lays down more intimate knowledge of not only the Iran war but also that of the Ukraine war than almost anyone else then drops “I’m not a military expert”😆. Now that is some old school war correspondent cajones right there, much respect and thank you, keep up the good work!

  4. Iran will control the Strait of Hormuz and collect tolls and there's nothing Trump can do about it. Russia and China have indicated that they are willing to comply with any decisions that Iran takes. Most US radar bases in the middle east are destroyed and starting another war will be more devastating for US Gulf allies.
The ongoing blockade of vessels going to and from Iran ports by US Naval Forces even looks like a stupíd action and waste of resources for international piracy
