The UK Met Office has issued a red extreme heat warning for parts of England, marking the first time such an alert has been activated. The warning covers a broad area stretching from London and the Southeast up to the Midlands and parts of the North, including Manchester and York. Temperatures are forecast to potentially reach unprecedented highs of 40°C. This highest-level alert indicates a significant risk to life, infrastructure, and transport systems, prompting officials to advise the public to take precautions and adjust daily routines.
- The red extreme heat warning represents the highest level of weather alert issued by the UK Met Office, signifying a national emergency.
- Unlike lower-level alerts, a red warning indicates that the extreme heat poses a danger to life for healthy individuals, not just vulnerable populations.
- The warning zone covers large portions of England, including London, the Midlands, the North West, the North East, and Yorkshire.
- Temperatures are projected to reach up to 40°C, which would break previous national temperature records.
- Significant disruptions are anticipated for public infrastructure, including potential rail speed restrictions, road surface damage, and increased pressure on healthcare services.

While I don’t necessarily subscribe to the alarmist ‘Climate emergency! Climate emergency!’ narrative, there can be no doubt that things are warming up a little. I’ve followed the weather on an amateur basis for years, and one of the things I do is count the number of days that it goes above 21°C in the UK each summer. This has been dramatically rising, particularly in the last decade. In the past couple of years, I’ve actually taken to counting the number of days that reach 25°C as these are becoming so common. If you look at the data, until around 2000, days at 30°C+ in the UK were pretty rare. Already this year, London has recorded 7 of these 30°C days and is just about to clock up at least 5 more and all this even before we are out of June!
It means it's going to be nice out. No need to panic – just enjoy!
On no the denials will be triggered
Ridiculous over reaction. 15 degrees above which normal? In another 10 years we will be looking forward to the years when it stays below 40 degrees. Does the BBC really believe that this is some sort of freak event even though it was all predicted 45/50 years ago and our summers will obviously get much much hotter.
Why doesn't she mention that pets and domestic animals also need extra attention in this heatwave? There are constant awful reports of dogs dying in parked cars. And people can put out bowls of water on pavements and fill up birdbaths.
Red warning 🙄 basically a lovely summers day! Slap some sunscreen on and enjoy 😎☀️
My earth why I am suffering.
But it's summer!? now only support to the Great Ukraine ⚡🇺🇦🙋🏻 above all
DID YOU KNOW: Under Section 44 of the UK’s ‘Employment Rights Act 1996’, YOU CAN refuse to work if you reasonably believe the conditions pose a "serious and imminent danger" to your health and safety. Because 35°C+ heat can cause severe heat exhaustion or heatstroke, this could be grounds to remove yourself from the hazard.
Employers cannot legally dock your pay, demote you, or discipline you for raising valid health and safety concerns or withdrawing from an unsafe environment. INVESTIGATE THIS FOR YOURSELF.
Doom and gloom channel its the summer time

My condolences to London. It must be terrible living there and it’s a bit hot as well!
