Developer Warns of Winter Fuel Shortage Risk if North Sea Jackdaw Gas Field is Not Approved

Date:

The head of the Jackdaw gas field project has warned that the United Kingdom faces a heightened risk of winter energy shortages if the North Sea gas field development is not approved. Proponents of the project argue that securing domestic gas sources is vital for national energy security and helps mitigate reliance on international imports. The development remains a central subject of discussion regarding the balance between immediate energy needs and long-term environmental targets.

  • The head of the Jackdaw project warned of potential winter fuel shortages without the approval of the North Sea gas field.
  • Developing domestic gas fields is presented as a measure to strengthen the United Kingdom’s energy independence.

  1. No room for more new fossil fuel develop ments is such a farce. China, USA and India are using 100 times our carbon budget. And not drilling isn't going to reduce our oil and gas usage all it means is we import it from abroad.

40-60% of our power generation is still from natural gas and 75% of our heating is gas.

  2. I think our government is being stupid not drilling but buying what should be our oil from our nabour. Just to be able to say we are almost carbon neutral. It's pigheadedness as we as another lie. Its franking we are concerned about. M (UK)

  3. A reluctance to exploit our natural gas resources will without doubt add to the hundreds of OAP’s that freeze to death each year because they can’t afford to heat their homes. We should see this as a golden opportunity to buy time to develop our greener infrastructure.
