As the United States, Canada, and Mexico prepare to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, several NFL stadiums selected as venues are undergoing major modifications. Despite being state-of-the-art facilities, these stadiums were designed specifically for American football, creating compatibility issues with soccer. Key challenges include narrow field dimensions that do not meet FIFA’s width requirements, the necessity of replacing artificial turf with natural grass, and the removal of lower-bowl seating to accommodate the wider pitch and safety run-off areas.
- FIFA standard soccer pitches are significantly wider than NFL fields, measuring between 74 and 82 yards wide compared to the American football standard of 53.3 yards.
- To accommodate the wider playing surface, multiple stadiums must temporarily remove seats in the lower-level corners, temporarily reducing total spectator capacity.
- World Cup matches must be played on high-quality natural grass, forcing stadiums that utilize artificial turf to install temporary grass surfaces with specialized under-layment and irrigation systems.
- Stadiums must also adjust their sidelines to provide adequate safety run-off zones for players, which are larger than those required in the NFL.
- These temporary retrofits require substantial financial investment and engineering coordination to meet strict international soccer standards.

Quick comment regarding the Kansas City stadium (Arrowhead). It was stated that the outdoor stadium "takes away much of the game noise which causes the overall sporting atmosphere to suffer".
I just want to state that Arrowhead Stadium in KC just so happens to hold the World Record for the 🌍's LOUDEST 🏟️!
142.2 Decibels does not sound like a sporting atmosphere that is "suffering" !! 😂😂
I’m not really sure we’re taking about stadiums getting too hot for soccer players as if football players don’t experience the heat? I’m so confused
Kansas city had the worst looking pitch of the tournament
Easy………EASY!!!! One is actual FOOTBAL, and the other one is a rip-off of RUGBY.
Still no selfrespecting media is going full on in, on the story of ticket prices… Sad
Of course the Azteca would be the best stadium for the final. But we all know the organizers wanted to maximize revenue and US prestige, which is why it's in NJ.
A horrible choice. Seattle would be a much better venue in the US
Arrowhead is not a quiet stadium, and its upper deck is famously steep. Also completely asinine to say that fans don't want an environment that's too loud for a soccer game.
Terrible journalism and an "expert" that clearly doesn't know anything about the stadiums he's talking about.
I wonder if it might have anything to do with the fact they were built for…NFL football…
Here in Texas we love our heat generating inclosed football stadiums. Go look at Mexico City's Bullrings for high density vertical seating.
2:27 and yet Arrowhe….I mean Kansas City stadium holds the record for loudest open air stadium in the world.
For a video about stadiums you got all their names in the intro wrong, gj wsj 👍
Why NFL Stadiums Aren't Built for the World Cup….
Because they were designed for American Football…duh
The Headline of the video is foolish, so I know the video is. I'm just here for the comments

idk man, this video is a reach. Been to plenty of these stadiums to watch both ⚽️ and 🏈, and they all have amazing views even the nosebleeds. World class architecture
2:17 tell me you don’t know Arrowhead without telling me you don’t know Arrowhead…literally the loudest outdoor stadium in the world.
5:00 I thought the opposite…don’t most soccer stadiums in the 20k/30k capacity not have corners? I don’t know any NFL that don’t wrap their bowls, amirite?
I can tell he is European who never watched football or at least Cheifs game… Atmosphere suffer because more flatter? Lol, I can't trust a single thing in this YT
Toronto Stadium (actually BMO Field) was geared for soccer more so – for Toronto FC. They recently plopped a CFL football field to accommodate the Argos.
Azteca is better than all venues in USA and Canada combined
Ironic that what he designed is basically Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium if got a wraparound shade screen for its bowl which it might have gotten as an upgrade had Canada gotten its 3rd venue city instead of Kansas City.. It's already Canada's largest stadium indoor or outdoor since Montreal Olympic downsized itself.. And held 2015 Women's World Cup with great success..
kafi bbq irving texas 🍖🤲🏾🙏🏾🎊
This is one of the most uninformed videos when it comes to US Stadium architecture.
