Absolutely BS. The talks are not stalled between Canada and the US because of Canada. Canada has already provided concessions but there has been no reserpracity. The US is not willing to discuss honoring the USMCA and want to keep all of their Section 232 tariffs. What is the point of further discussions if the only thing the US wants is further concessions. Better no deal than an bad one. Does the EU and UK like their deal? Canada does 70% of its export trade with the US. We can't aford a bad deal.
Trump's deflection about dairy is also nonsense. He negotiated higher tariff free quotas for the US in the USMCA. Those quotas have never been reached so US dairy has 0% tariffs coming into Canada at present. If US producers are having a hard time selling to Canada perhaps it is because of price or quality. It is not because of tariffs – there are none.
Trump reneged on USMCA , there is little trust in Canada for any new agreement.
This new round of tariffs has only strengthened our resolve.

It's because Trump wants to lock in the CUSMA for another 6 years. The agreement expired on July 1st and the 3 countries don't agree on the renewal, so it triggered the sunset clause in which it is subjected to yearly review.
