In the Australian outback, fires are considered to be part of the eco system. As the undergrowth burns off, it leaves behind ash, which is a natural fertiliser. These forest fires in Canada are not a natural disaster. They are just part of the way the planet deals with large open spaces covered with trees, shrubs and brush. The occasional “burn off” is necessary to maintain the overall ecosystem. The only stupid thing is to ignore this basic truth and build your house right next to an inflammable forest. Surround your house with several acres of neatly mown lawn and you will not have any trouble.

Prime Minister Mark Carney cut a bunch of climate policies, reversed multiple environmental protections including canceling carbon pricing and has been turning the Liberal Party into another conservative party in the pocket of the oil industry and peddling more pipelines, in fact, he's been peddling one along with the premier of Alberta that would go through forests and wetlands in British Columbia endangering wildlife and BC coastal waters. Carney is giving Trump exactly what he wants – more fossil fuel dependence. Instead of discussing pipelines, they should have been discussing wildfire prevention and more stringent environmental protections and climate action. Mark Carney is ruining the progress Canada made in recent years in the fight against climate change, now in just the short time Carney has been Prime Minister we've become the worst country in the G7 when it comes to investment in renewable energy projects. It's embarrassing and shameful. Carney needs to be removed as Liberal leader and new PM elected. He is ruining Canada just like he sat idly by doing nothing for the UK all those years.
