Investigation Uncovers Social Media Profiles Selling Migration Assistance to Moroccan Migrants

Date:

An investigation has revealed a growing network of social media accounts offering paid assistance and logistical guidance to Moroccan migrants attempting to reach Europe. Operating primarily on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, these profiles market illegal crossing routes, including maritime passages and attempts to scale border fences into the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla. Smugglers and facilitators use these channels to provide real-time advice, coordinate departures, and evade border authorities, underscoring the expanding role of digital platforms in irregular migration logistics.

  • Social media accounts across multiple platforms are actively advertising smuggling services and guidance to individuals seeking to enter Europe irregularly.
  • Facilitators provide specific operational advice, including routes for swimming around coastal barriers, scaling border fences, and evading law enforcement patrols.
  • Services are offered for fees that vary based on the perceived safety and method of the transit, ranging from individual tips to coordinated boat crossings.
  • Smugglers leverage online platforms to broadcast real-time updates regarding police deployment and weather conditions along the Moroccan-Spanish border.
  • The reliance on decentralized digital networks continues to present monitoring and enforcement challenges for security authorities in both Morocco and Spain.

  1. Such profiles existed for years. They pop up and disappear often, they also use burner accounts and phones/numbers. Migration is a natural human process through history. These migrations happen for many various reasons. This mass migration event was encouraged and organized as such and the masses on their way to the border weren't stopped either.

  2. Ceuta is indeed part of Spain but it is not in the Schengen Area. Passing to mainland Spain takes you through a very strict border control — even more strict than, say, flying to Spain with a Moroccan passport. Surely Farage and "Tommy" and all those other clowns know it. It would have been helpful if the media had made that clear from the beginning.

  3. I have travelled many a time from tangiers to Ceuta. There are hundreds if morrocan police on the way…. So your arguments are flawed to say the last. This was a well coordinated and planned operation. The people Who came Did not speak spanish at all so they came from areas and not on foot.

  4. BBC is a mess. Write a piece about billionaire rentier capitalists destroying British institutions and services instead of fixating on poverty stricken people? Utterly useless as journalists or soo driven by Murdochs decades of poison, that you have let the Overton window render your content meaningless

  5. Spain encourages illegal immigration’s to benefit growing economy.Spain refuses to handle minors to Morocco they kidnapped these kids spreading all over spain and taking big bucks from European unions

  6. Thanks for describing the process and ethics of investigative journalism. I've followed the news for several decades but don't recall this level of detail being explained before. I know there are uninformed cynics who will endlessly criticize any opinion they don't like, but this is the transparency that journalism needs to rebuild trust with the public.
