Jordan faces severe water scarcity driven by climate change, population growth, and regional resource constraints. Under the 1994 peace treaty, Israel provides Jordan with designated annual water quotas from the Sea of Galilee. While bilateral agreements have occasionally expanded these transfers, regional political tensions and ecological challenges in shared water basins continue to complicate long-term resource management. Ensuring a dependable water supply remains critical to Jordan’s domestic stability and ongoing regional diplomatic cooperation.
- Jordan ranks among the most water-scarce nations globally, facing high domestic demand compounded by population growth and refugee arrivals.
- The 1994 Israel-Jordan peace treaty established formal water-sharing protocols, requiring Israel to supply specific volumes of water annually.
- Subsequent bilateral arrangements have periodically doubled the volume of water transfers to help alleviate Jordan’s chronic supply shortages.
- Proposed cross-border initiatives, including agreements to exchange Jordanian solar energy for Israeli desalinated water, remain sensitive to regional political friction.
- Over-extraction, drought, and environmental degradation in the Jordan River basin continue to pose severe long-term risks to regional water security.

Jordan is a British colonial fiction.
So the agreement with Israel is not in effect, but Israel is still providing water to Jordan, and somehow that older guy complains?
Jordan is incompetent
and israel wonders why people don't like them
Who's suprised ✌️
Some country stealing others' resources as seems.
A genocidal state has no right to exist.
Jordanian king is but an impotent vassal.
Excavate a canal from Aqaba to the Dead Sea, and fill it to the zero level, so the region will have more humidity in the air and the ground water level will increase. Then plant more trees near the Dead Sea, so trees will catch humidity every morning, and fill the ground water sources and rivers.
It is certain that the Israeli Navy will utilise the INS Drakon submarine—delivered ten days ago by German ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS)—to carry out this peaceful mission.
Amazing how the title is supposed to paint Israel in a bad light, yet the only reason Jordan gets a significant amount of its water is because of Israel.
I feel bad for Jordan. They are usually like the Switzerland of the Middle East and try to stay out of conflicts.
Small fact- Israel has its own water crisis at the moment.
Israel is still obeying the peace agreements water plan. They just don’t get the extra because , again, Israel has a water crisis at the moment as well
Israel is going after one territory at a time. Like Putin. Gaza, then the West Bank, then Lebanon, then Syria……
always blaming Israel because it sells and bring the views
israel isn't blackmailing jordan. there just simply isn't enough water. israel actual even drinks recycled water. the US still doesn't even do the drinking part.
Israel doesn't owe Jordan free water, it gives it as a gesture of goodwill. Why then would Jordanians be surprised when Israel uses the water it gives for free as leverage on policy?
Israel doesn't owe them any water.
Jordan has issues to solve, why is Israel’s name on this report headline?
To attract viewers using Israel and it’s people as the one to always blame.
Jordan may choose to buy or produce it’s own water elsewhere.
DW – you are using racist populist snd offensive headlines – shame on you.
DWjazeera at its best… you're a disgrace
Israel has six large-scale desalination plants that provide 75% of its drinking water and recycled, highly purified wastewater (effluent), which supplies about 90% of its agricultural needs.
Oh ,so it's dry in the desert?🏜️
Desertification is being reversed in China and the U.S. West by returning grazing animals to their former grazing lands. Water cannot penetrate rock hard, baked soil. Planting trees will not help when they have no water – they die. Hoofed grazing animals break up the rock hard soil. Grasses with seeds eaten by grazing animals have a better chance of growing in broken , damp soil. Animal urine and feces provide moisture and nitrogen. Desertification is usually the result of human mis-management of grasslands and clearcutting forests. Please research this process. There is enough water for everyone but it needs to be captured in healthy soil to replenish underground reservoirs. Increased desalination inland seas and the ocean will eventually lead to greater disaster. Please use methods of de-desertification that have proven successful. Increasing the desalination of salt water is literally a dead end for humanity, unless AI accomplishes that first.
Jordan must kick out all US bases maybe if they treat with that, Israel will see that they are his last allie in the region
Jordan has to wake up & develop its country instead of spending millions in events such as marriages, etc. & depending on other countries to provide funds.
Its Israels water. Case closed!
