Minister Indranee Rajah calls for the normalisation of career breaks for mothers

Date:

Minister Indranee Rajah has called for a shift in workplace culture to normalize career breaks for mothers, advocating for professional paths to be viewed as long-term marathons rather than linear sprints. Speaking on workforce inclusivity, she emphasized the importance of supporting women who re-enter the labor market after focusing on family responsibilities. By encouraging employers to adopt more flexible mindsets regarding employment gaps, the government aims to ensure that mothers can balance domestic life with their career goals without facing professional penalties or stigma.

  • Minister Indranee Rajah emphasized that career paths should be flexible enough to accommodate life stages such as caregiving.
  • The government is advocating for a change in employer mindsets to value skills and potential over continuous employment history.
  • New tripartite guidelines on flexible work arrangements are being introduced to provide better support for parents and caregivers.
  • Initiatives are in place to help women returning to the workforce through job-matching services and upskilling programs.
  • The goal is to create a more inclusive economy where taking time off for family does not hinder long-term career progression.

  1. The “career break” , if anything longer than the law mandated period, has to be non-paid leave so that the company can re-allocate the budget to hire a proper cover, so that the rest of the team does not have to absorb the additional work. Or else, maybe pay needs to increase for the team that did not have the benefit of this “break”, especially singles who have suffered through ongoing maternity paternity breaks.

  2. Coming from someone who heads such a committee, while she herself was NEVER MARRIED, HAD ANY CHILD and talks down to you struggling folks with family, LIKE A EXPERT ON THIS AREA!🤭

  3. Employer are always their profit and k p i in mind or else companies too management how to have fat bonuses and shares but low salary employee need more overtime to make extra . If without the poor getting poorer how richer getting richer or else how top management every year can change bigger and luxurious car and buy bigger landed houses if not the sacrifice of middle income worker , even extra bonuses across the board top management " extras " can make middle income employees lasts for months if not years that why top management have better profit definitely they want it to be " shared " but in fact are for top management first then left over are for lower workers unless any good profit top management says they don't want them .
