The dismissal was based on evidence related to ammunition that was not properly disclosed to Baldwin’s defense team. This evidence came to light after the armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was convicted.
The judge ruled that all evidence from the “Rust” set should have been logged and presented to the defense, concluding the failure to do so prejudiced Baldwin’s case.
The incident has sparked discussions in the film and TV industry about the use of real guns on sets, with many productions now opting for CGI or prop guns to eliminate risks.
Though no legal mandates have been imposed, the tragedy has led to a shift in industry practices regarding firearms on set to prevent similar incidents.
