Displaced Palestinians in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, have participated in a local election process to establish a community committee. This initiative aims to improve the organization of aid distribution and manage the daily needs of thousands living in displacement camps. For many younger participants, this represents their first opportunity to cast a ballot, as national elections have not been held in the region for nearly two decades. The process highlights efforts by local residents to create structure and representation despite the ongoing humanitarian crisis and conflict.
- Displaced residents in Deir al-Balah organized a local election to form a community committee for their shelter area.
- The newly elected committee is tasked with overseeing aid distribution, sanitation, and resource management within the camps.
- The initiative seeks to provide a transparent and organized system for addressing the grievances and immediate needs of the displaced population.
- Many voters expressed that this was their first time participating in any form of election due to the lack of national voting in Gaza since 2006.
- Organizers emphasized that the committee will act as a bridge between the residents and international aid organizations to ensure fair access to supplies.

bruh…
Why haven’t they been able to vote before?
Voting for Hamas again?
End the genocide 🇵🇸
Mmm Israel doing something underhand here methinks
End the genocide
Censorship is strong here
Low turn up given the conditions which pose threat to human life is understandable, however people of Gaza should know that high turn up during elections sends an important signal to the outside world " we do matter, we want to be heard, we have right to express our views". And even in terms of independence, it's harder to deny the existence of the nation when it goes to vote in the elections and when the turn up is high. When my own country was under occupation the occupying forces put a ban on elections precisely for this reason, to pretend the nation does not exist hence it needs no territory or independence. Looking at this unique opportunity for the people of Gaza I do think about it and I hope that being given such opportunities in the future people of Gaza will use their right to vote in their elections.
They have no food, no water, Israel is killing them. DW talking about voting. The problem is not Gazans, but in Israel and Israelis. DW is a friend of genocide
Will they elect Hamas again? Or just another terrorist organization with a different name?
I love how DW promotes the idea that the Fatah-controlled PA is bringing democracy to Gaza while Mahmoud Abbas is in his 22nd year of his 4 year term as president. 🤡🤡
