Trump Rejects Iran Peace Proposal as Hormuz Standoff Enters Ninth Week

Date:

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has introduced a regional security initiative called the “Hormuz Peace Endeavor” (HOPE) during the United Nations General Assembly. The proposal advocates for maritime stability and cooperation among Persian Gulf nations while explicitly rejecting the presence of foreign military forces. Despite this diplomatic outreach, tensions remain high as the United States rejects the plan, instead increasing economic sanctions and military deployments to Saudi Arabia. The ongoing standoff enters its ninth week amid international disputes over responsibility for recent attacks on global energy infrastructure.

  • President Rouhani’s HOPE initiative seeks to secure the Strait of Hormuz through regional partnerships rather than international intervention.
  • The United States has responded by imposing new sanctions on the Iranian central bank and deploying additional missile defense systems to the region.
  • European leaders from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany have joined the U.S. in attributing recent attacks on Saudi oil facilities to Iran.
  • Iran denies involvement in the drone and missile strikes and maintains that sanctions must be lifted before talks can proceed.
  • The maritime standoff has persisted for nine weeks, significantly impacting international relations and regional security dynamics.

  1. My observation is this: Russia a minor power did everything it could to provoke this war. Iran's meth fuelled supremes committing atrocities many thousands of times daily didn't & doesn't seem to worry anyone, as long as they were getting the oil. Nor did the prospect of Iran becoming a nuclear armed thug. Maybe a little reconsideration of the greater good rather than blatant self interest might be called for.

  2. Iran is simply waiting: you can’t keep up tens of thousands marines with 5-6 vessels playing seek and hide with tankers, c’mon, it cost billions tax money daily, you go belly up before anyone else. In the end Iran controls the straight, open or close, Iran makes the call.

  3. I call BS. Of course after 47 years it was known that Iran could do this. The war all most worked Quickly, but didn't. No boots on the ground is why the Iran regime is left alive. Get use to it. It's going to take longer than thought. Some leaders believe that the world can negotiate with the worst terrorist country in the world? Sure, if you say so. Every one and their brother have a worthless opinion. Reality is going to play out. I still don't see it being good for Iran. As for the rest of the world? It's all about fear and greed. Don't even hide it.

  4. The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that the administration’s sweeping tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) were illegal. The court found that IEEPA does not grant the president unilateral authority to impose tariffs, as the power to tax belongs to Congress. A controversial project to build a massive $400 million neoclassical ballroom where the White House East Wing once stood has faced repeated legal halts. Experts have warned that strikes on civilian infrastructure, including energy and water facilities, may constitute war crimes. Reports indicate thousands of civilian casualties, including a strike on the Minab primary school that killed at least 175 people. Pam Bondi was recently removed as Attorney General following intense scrutiny over her handling of the Epstein files.

  5. Daily executions and the screwed up sociality were a problem for the US. NOT ANY MORE IF IRANIANS DON'T WANT TO FIGHT THE REGIME WHEN GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY. Trump told them it is an opportunity of a lifetime. Sorry, they missed it; the US doesn't have to honor that anymore. The strait as well, is not a US problem that the US has to put in more money to fix it. Whoever wants Gulf's oil has to deal with it themselves.
