ASEAN Warns US-Iran Conflict Threatens Energy Supplies

Date:

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has raised concerns regarding military conflict involving the United States and Iran, warning that escalating hostilities pose a direct threat to global energy supplies. Southeast Asian economies rely heavily on oil and gas imports from the Middle East, leaving the region vulnerable to fuel price spikes and supply chain disruptions. In response to the growing instability, ASEAN member states are urging diplomatic restraint to protect global trade routes and prevent further economic volatility.

  • ASEAN highlighted energy security risks stemming from heightened military tensions between the U.S. and Iran.
  • Southeast Asian nations face potential economic strain due to high dependence on Middle Eastern fossil fuel imports.
  • Disruptions to maritime trade corridors risk driving up energy prices and inflation across Asian markets.
  • Regional leaders are calling for immediate de-escalation and diplomatic dialogue to safeguard international energy flows.

  1. Trump doesn't care about consequences. He only cares about the dramatic effect. He is running a reality TV show. There is not a lot of differences between reality and reality TV for Trump.

  2. While Hormuz Strait is important to the world while controlling only a sizable % of world trade. How about ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) the world's fourth-largest economy. ASEAN The combined nominal GDP of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations bloc is approximately $4.1 trillion, ranking it as one of the top economic regions globally?

    Let us use this leverage and unite because this is a formidable force and a guaranteed safety precaution and deterrent against any foreign powers but as a condition precedent WE MUST UNITE.

  3. The Philippines is the chair of ASEAN. As chair, it is expected to abide even more strictly by the ASEAN Charter. However, the Philippines is violating the ASEAN principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of member states. The Philippines, which does not follow the rules, should step down from the chairmanship. The Philippines should resign from the position of ASEAN chair. Have some shame, Philippines.

  4. Iran made a strategic blunder by hampering the flow of goods through the strait of Hormuz. What they did was not a flex, not an ace up their sleeve, but the one thing that would encourage the rest of the world to want regime change…

  5. Chinese aggressive behaviour there? There are 11 members in ASEAN with 5 having some claims or other over these atolls with China and only one has some physical interaction with China. And within ASEAN, all have territorial disputes with one another but never come to blows except recently between Thailand and Cambodia. Maybe there is an outside force instigating the situation?

  6. This is so sad people.

    If there is a silver lining in the dark clouds of this current mess in Iran:

    it may be that more and more countries will see the harm that can happen to their economies from relying on Petro-states for energy.

    (the major Petro-states are: the Middle East countries of OPEC; Russia; and the USA!)

    Short list of past Petro-state crisis:

    1973 OPEC oil embargo (USA);

    1979 OPEC oil crisis (USA);

    1981 to 1988 oil tanker war;

    1990 Iraq invaded Kuwait;

    2003 US invades Iraq;

    2014 Russian seizes Crimea;

    2022 Russia invades Ukraine;

    (also oil demand shock coming out of COVID)

    2023 OPEC+ cut in production to drive up oil prices (and hurt election chances for US Democrats in 2024);

    2025 Trump and the Republican party's trade war with the world;

    (and wanting to take over Greenland: by military force if necessary; and make Canada the 51st state: just like Russia taking Ukraine)

    2026 Trump and the Republican party's seizing of the leader of Venezuela for the countries oil.

    2026 Trump and the Republican party's war on Iran.

    I hope people all over the world look long and hard at all this and understand how crucially important to everyone on the planet it is to transition away from burning fossil fuels as fast a possible.

    Not just for CO2 going into Earth's atmosphere.

    Not just for air pollution in big cities.

    But also for taking away the enormous amounts of money these Petro-States use to undermine democracy across the globe!

  7. When jobs and employment are already scarce, why push for more population growth? People are already struggling with their future, burdened by uncertainty and distress. Adding numbers without opportunities only deepens suffering it feels unjust and irresponsible.

  9. If ASEAN keep on demanding an immediate halt to hostilities then we are going to tell China to beat you up. You are not offering troops to the US to assist in securing strait of Hormuz and you need a good slap. Like how fathers treat their children.

  10. Isolate America from the rest of the world, stop trade, imports, the whole shabang, the world doesn't need the US , only causing trouble for all of us, i love Americans but their president is a war criminal.
