Arsonists can't put tens of thousands of hectars on fire in a couole of days unless the vegetation is extremely dry and there is hot dry wind.
The main reason why these fires got these dimensions is climate change.
What comes on top is poor land management: rural exodus leaves large swathes of former cultural landscape abandonded, goats and sheep herds that used to control the grasslands are now gone, containment lanes are not beibg maintained properly, and rainy winters have boosted vegetation there that is now extremely dry.
In large parts of Spain and Portugal people grow eucalyptus trees that are called the arsonists of the plant realm for a reason.
Around Bordeaux there are large man-made pine forests planted for timber that burn like crazy too.
Abandoned vinyards might have played a role too because vintners got subsidies to clear (!) Their vinyards in recent years to keep wine prices from dropping. These abandoned vinyards are often left to themselves.
But again, the reason why all this can get so much put of hand is getting more frequent and more extreme by the year is climate change.
