K-Pop Group BTS Boycotts the Grammy Awards

I think it's great that the Grammys got an Asian section. Now OTHER Asian pop singer OTHER then K-pop can be shown in better light. I wonder why they had to create a different category in the Billboard ranking for K-pop???🤔

The category award isn't offensive, the offensive part is what hiddes behind and the use of a pretext. Basically the Grammys create a pocket to throw in all the Kpop groups that can earn awards over the U.S artists.

I think you guys are missing some context: BTS has been invited often to perform on the main show and always closer to the end, bringing a lot of attention and views to the program, but have never won. That is understandable because the previous songs nominated were lighter songs made by bts to comfort their fans during the pandemic. But this time around, the album is mostly in English and they collaborated with many American musicians and producers. Strangely enough, this year the Grammys decide to create an Asian category (might not even be announced on the main televised show) yet most likely will ask BTS to perform. They like their fame and music when it gives them advertising but don’t like to give awards to artists that don’t look like them. It’s noticeable. No, not anymore. They have great pride and self respect, it’s enough.

That should raise the questions for all regional categories in fact. Pop is pop wherever it comes from. It took almost 30 years for a latin artist to win in the big category so don't pretend like it's value as the same. It's a corner that yes gives some space but a define one that is go put them on the side when the mainstream american artists can win all the main categories. It's not inclusivity.

The "honor" u say is a degrade. U just said that BTS cant win a Grammy, they get a sub-category as a consolation not a "consolidation" prize.

It’s segregation. I’m Korean American and as soon as the category was announced I immediately knew it was segregation. “Honoring” is a hilarious way to put it though.

Honor???????? Dear journalist, they weren't trying to honor them when they explicitly announce a category in the year their comeback album hit and keeps breaking records, so no, they weren't honoring but segregating them.

Imagine needing a 65-year-old committee to tell the world what good music is.
The Grammys didn't lose BTS; they just lost whatever tiny bit of credibility they had left.

Grammy is more tilted toward American artists than American Music Awards.

Adele (UK) has won Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.
Ed Sheeran (UK) competes in the same Pop and General Field categories as American artists.
Dua Lipa (UK) has won major Grammy awards in the general categories.
ABBA (Sweden) has also been eligible for general Grammy categories.

What is “Asian pop”? To “honour” them? So you are saying Asians should only be honoured based on their ethnicity? Not their music? Why?

Do you know Asia is huge? Do you know the criteria for “Asian pop” is 80% “Asian language” and English is specifically excluded beyond 20%?

Do you know a lot of Asian countries have English as their FIRST LANGUAGE?

BTS has to make a statement because otherwise their fandom would riot thinking the Grammy snub them again. This way they know no submission/s was / were ever made

Where are the categories for European and Canadian Pop? People just need to admit Grammy is xenophobic.

I think the people at the Grammys are just confused about the KPop phenomenon that they unwittingly look condescending with the creation of a new category. KPop may look different but it's not exactly a specific genre or just Asian. They need to rename the category to something different.

Awards mean nothing when theyre popularity contests, thats why Kpop awards mean nothing. Kpop has little artistic value, everything is so manufactured.

For the Grammys to have Jazz, Opera, Classical, Show Music, Hip Hop and Rap, Urban Pop and Romantic Pop, etc is fine. But to wall off Latin or Spanish language music, Asian music, World ( Non American ) music, African , hey where is Eastern European or South Asian and so on, is just Racist and Almost American Nationalist. Here are we Americans and here are all thd rest of you… So 8 and more billion folks on one side and American and some Brits on the other. Whoah! Is this right? No!!! BTS or a Phillipine Group or some Indian singers should be part of the best album group, etc etc etc And this would mean the Academy would need yo forbid promotional materials from big 'Record Groups' like Capital or Sony or ________. And in this age of streaming the voting members would be required to listen to all nominees through Spotify or Apple or Google or whatever. It could be a seminal moment for " cleaning house" eliminating bribes and manipulation. Look how many Jpop Mpop and Kpop artists have learn|d English to participate in the MAJOR CATEGORIES. I have watched Grammy corruption , even criminality in the US and UK music industry for decades. Good time for a complete change top to bottom and transparency in its processes. 😮😮😮
