  1. He says the Big Island has never been hit directly by a hurricane before, yet the title of this video says 155 years, and a quick search tells us a hurricane hit land on the Big Island 155 years ago. My own local news even says first possible direct hit from a hurricane in 155 years.

  2. In 1871 it was not a state yet. Last direct hit to Hawaii Island. I am in the middle of the storm. There is serious breaking of huge trees extremely strong rain and pretty strong winds. I am on the eastern side about 35 miles north of the eye currently. We have gotten probably close to two feet of rain already. Aloha Nui.🤙 it also may. E snowing on Mauna Kea which is ridiculous. Also there were fires on the saddle that are now extinguished.

  3. 155 years without a direct hit is a wild statistic on its own — but what's more concerning is how much more is now in harm's way on the Big Island compared to 1871. Infrastructure, population, tourism… a storm like this hitting today has a very different risk profile than it would have a century and a half ago. But then, so does everywhere else.

  4. hello europeople, no… its not landfall it turned south. pretty close, but not landfall. powers out, kind of annoying. not a good beach day on a weekend… also annoying. there is some minor damage. its really not that big of a deal.

  5. Category one isn't that strong. Only a very small portion will experience the 70 mile an hour winds. The rest will just be a strong thunderstorm with some wind and rain. The media just make a big deal out of everything.

  6. As someone who lives on Oahu (south shore) I'm more worried about the people who live on the North Shore of this island, they had major flooding earlier this year and now have to deal with this as well.
