AfD Leads Polls Ahead of State Election in Germany’s Saxony-Anhalt

Date:

Opinion polls ahead of the state election in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt indicate that the Alternative for Germany (AfD) is competing closely with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) for first place. The regional vote is regarded as a significant test of voter sentiment and party strength in eastern Germany. Despite the AfD’s position near the top of the polls, all other mainstream political parties have reaffirmed their refusal to enter into any governing coalition with the party, complicating potential paths to a legislative majority.

  • Polling in Saxony-Anhalt shows the AfD running in a tight contest against the center-right CDU ahead of the state parliamentary election.
  • The election serves as a critical barometer for regional political alignment and broader national trends in Germany.
  • Mainstream political parties continue to uphold a cordon sanitaire, ruling out any coalition or formal cooperation with the AfD.
  • Key campaign issues include economic conditions in eastern Germany, regional infrastructure, and public sentiment toward federal policies.

  1. Strong deja vu feeling … except this time the failed painter sympathizers are friends with Russia. Correction – they were friends with Russia at the beginning the first time too … I guess everything checks out 😆

  2. People keep forgetting that we already had another right-wing party sitting in a state parliament and nothing came of it. We have 16 states and our laws and regulations are well intertwined to not allow for radicals to wreck havoc. They have never been able to actually get anything done so far and that wont change any time soon either. Just being against everything is simply not good enough in a democracy, which requires people to compromise. It is either freedom and compromise or no freedom and dictatorship/rule from above.
