Yahya Sinwar was a prominent Palestinian militant leader who served as the head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip and was widely considered the primary architect of the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel. A long-time figure within the organization’s security apparatus, Sinwar spent over two decades in Israeli prisons before his release in a 2011 prisoner exchange. Following his rise to the top of Hamas’ political and military hierarchy, he became a central target of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, ultimately being killed by Israeli forces in October 2024.
