A cross-party group of UK Members of Parliament is urging the government to ban the use of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as “forever chemicals,” in non-essential products. These substances are widely used in items such as school uniforms and non-stick frying pans due to their water and grease-resistant properties. The Environmental Audit Committee has raised concerns regarding the persistence of these chemicals in the environment and their potential links to adverse health effects, calling for stricter regulations similar to those proposed in other jurisdictions.
- MPs on the Environmental Audit Committee are recommending a ban on PFAS in consumer goods like cookware and clothing.
- The term “forever chemicals” refers to the substances’ inability to break down naturally in the environment or the human body.
- The committee highlighted specific concerns about the presence of these chemicals in school uniforms and specialized workwear.
- Scientific research has linked long-term PFAS exposure to potential health issues, including immune system impacts and developmental concerns.
- The report advocates for the UK to implement a more robust chemical management strategy to limit environmental contamination.

Politicians worried about this stuff while allowing millions of murderers into the country
It won't happen, because just like ALL. Billionaire owned companies/businesses, they'll just backhand (bribe) rightwinged governments, so they never ban them.
If we want genuine change for the better of working class's finances, health, services, and day-to-day lives in general, then we MUST elect in a TRUE leftwing party next GE!
Any idea what material we should use then? There are pan's made of different textures/materials. Which one is safer and non toxic?
Stupid climate nonsense now cause bbc pushes it 🙄 😒
Not only ban but also implement the law for the people from all over the world.
UK MP's clearly have a bit to much time on their hands. They'll have plenty come the next elections.
They invent this stuff. Sell it to us. Profit from it. Harm us. And then take it away from us. They are trying to protect the elites from harm not the poor.
FINALLY
Wait till u find out about microplastics in carpet
Use " Stainless-steel", costs more but lasts longer , just get a brillo pad and scrub clean. Avoid aluminium pots and pans too, human body can't break it down and eject it.❤
They aren't forever, the sun will expand eventually and vapourise the Earth and eventually turn into new frying pans in a few billion years.
They make crappy foods full of sugar too then blame us for their profits and our bad health.
There's really no excuse to be using PFAs in wood containers and cookware. Waxed paper works great as does cookware without PFAs. There's a reason chefs using stainless steel and high carbon steel, they make they own non-stick coating by seasoning the pan. Lodge cast iron seasons their cast iron at the factory.
We need to get rid of plastic too!
About time.
I read in a book called supermind power that alzeimers victims had autopsies of their brains and they had excessive amounts of man made aluminum.you get aluminum from deoderants, cabbage, spinach, and aerosal sprays.some think that govt planes release aluminum into the atmosphere.
You must be yoiking! You're cracking me up! I need an eggsplanation!
F 0 bbc😊.
Teflon PFAS Tefal
They were going to ban in cookware in California.
The tv chefs lobbyed against it. Traitors
Forever chemicals are present in sewage sludge which is spread on farmland to grow crops.
MPs call for ban *ON non-essential 'forever chemicals'
Ban politicians instead
only bbc wants to be forever
Happy St George's Day to all.
it won't happen. you can't test all 15000 forever chemicals and show them to be harmful. producers can always find an untested one, invent a new acronym and claim it's not regulated. labels nowadays claim product does not contain a list of acronyms means nothing.
