I’m sorry, but you give far too much credit to the people of the United States. This is not a mirror moment. In fact in a recent Cato Institute survey 46% of Americans could not specify what occurred 250 years ago. All of the Republican dominated states are busy rewriting school curricula to remove any possibilities of actually looking in the mirror. The Republican Party is busy removing any evidence of the achievements of black and brown people and women. I appreciate your optimism, but the reality on the ground is actually quite different.
We owe men like Rochambeau and Lafayette unending gratitude, as well as the Frenchmen they brought to America to help in our struggle.
