Biotech Firms Compete to Commercialize the Psychedelic Drug 5-MeO-DMT for Mental Health Treatment

Date:

Biotech companies are racing to commercialize 5-MeO-DMT, a powerful psychedelic compound historically sourced from the venom of the Sonoran Desert toad. Researchers are currently developing synthetic versions of the substance to treat treatment-resistant depression and other mental health conditions. Because 5-MeO-DMT’s effects last only a fraction of the time of other psychedelics like psilocybin or LSD, it offers an efficient option for clinical therapy, potentially reducing treatment costs and increasing patient accessibility.

  • 5-MeO-DMT is recognized as one of the world’s most potent psychedelics, known for inducing rapid and intense psychoactive experiences.
  • A typical session with the compound lasts less than an hour, making it highly practical for standard clinical schedules compared to longer-lasting psychedelics.
  • To prevent the ecological exploitation of the Sonoran Desert toad, biotechnology companies are manufacturing fully synthetic versions of the molecule for research.
  • Ongoing clinical trials are testing the compound’s safety and efficacy in treating severe, treatment-resistant depression.
  • The pathway to market requires navigating strict regulatory classifications, as the substance is currently classified under tight restrictions in many countries.

  1. If there is a bridge between SSRis SNRIs SDRIs, and MAO inhibitors and things like electro-convulsive therapy, which is still legal, then why would we not allow that? On the other hand, it has to be treated like last ditch therapy, because any THC or psychedelic compound can cause psychosis and increased dissociative symptoms, interfere with memory, interfere with talk therapy, or cause paranoia in some cases, as well as in some cases improving talk therapy or being a ECT-like one time depression intervention in other cases.

  2. I have done 5-Meo-DMT and this way too powerful to commercialize. It’s far too easy for the trip to go wrong and cause PTSD. If they’re going to commercialize any psychedelic it should be Ibogaine. Even if you have a bad time, you come out of it still feeling like reality and YOU are real. And it can cure opioid addiction when used appropriately.

  3. Not even sure how to feel about all this. It’s great that people are getting to utilize the medicine but these pharma companies getting involved is just terrifying…if they’re the ones synthesizing these compounds, they’re deciding exactly what’s in it. Let’s hope they’re honest about it just like in other facets of government/healthcare🤔🤔

  4. Jesus christ. There are better methods to VAPORIZE dmt. That divice is 100% burning it. I bet that tastes like straight garbage and gives a bad flavor and experience compared to what it could be with a proper apparatus.

  5. 4 to 5 years!!! It didn't take that long for the suspect mRNA/spike protein needles of 2020 and beyond to be produced and legalized and made mandatory. I wouldn't trust any government version of anything. I'd go instead to a trusted retreat for DMT/Ayahuasca, probably in Iquitos, Peru.

  6. Please help me I have permanent depression and PTSD from my military service I constantly just wanna off myself no joke I'm on the max of all my GP meds ,wow think I'll just buy it on the web ripping off vets .

  7. I smoked dmt 16 years ago and it changed my life. It was like erasing the old me so I could be the person I was supposed to be. I use to be a angry depressed/ suicidal person. Since that experience I've been one of the most outgoing, peaceful happy people I know. Not saying you'll only be happy, not once since the experience have I thought about ending my life. (It's not for everyone, but it's life saving for some)
