As a Cloud Architect and huge user of AI, it 100% needs regulating. The majority of people don't even use AI weekly; they have no idea how powerful and risky this will become very quickly, especially as human's can't think in terms of exponentiality, which is how this will grow and become a risk extremely quickly. AI will likely become more intelligent than us within the next 1-5 years; anyone that thinks we can control an intelligence greater – and 1000s of times quicker – than ours and make it bend to our will is either delusional or an idiot. Trump is the clear example of this. It's shocking how many people seem to think they understand this better than the CEOs and engineers/architects working directly with AI development in the field!
The reality though is that what will happen will happen. Regulation won't come before it's too late. We'll just have to watch this play out and hope for the best and this won't be stopped – there is far too much at stake meterially for people like Trump who would put the American economy above the risks of society ending (even though China will win the AI race as they're gaining ground and have LLMs miles cheaper, even though they have inferior compute).
