Documents Show Close Calls Occurred One Day Before D.C. Midair Collision

Date:

Newly obtained documents reveal that several close calls occurred at Reagan National Airport just one day prior to a high-profile aviation incident in Washington, D.C. These records highlight significant concerns regarding air traffic control operations, including staffing shortages and communication lapses. The findings suggest that safety margins at one of the nation’s busiest airports have been increasingly thin, leading to a series of near-misses that have prompted federal investigations into current aviation protocols and controller workloads.

  • Internal records indicate multiple near-misses occurred in the 24 hours leading up to a significant safety event in D.C. airspace.
  • Safety logs show instances where aircraft were cleared on intersecting flight paths, narrowly avoiding potential collisions.
  • Air traffic control staffing levels are reportedly under significant strain, leading to concerns over increased controller fatigue.
  • Aviation experts have identified high traffic volume and technical communication errors as primary factors in these safety lapses.
  • The Federal Aviation Administration is being urged to modernize tracking systems and address labor shortages to maintain safety standards.

  1. It goes way deeper but, if you call it out you are immediately called out for what you are saying, truth be damned.
Up is down, left is right and we've dug a hole that we never should have, no side should ever be in power, we were meant to be ruled by compromising people that care about our Country as a whole. Not what we have today, on both sides of the isle!

  2. Personally don't care what side your on…These people who are trying to keep us safe need to be PAID NOW..Absolutely ridiculous..Enough already. We all pay taxes for a reason. Stop using the public for a pissing match..

  3. Among the many contributing factors leading to the ultimate tragedy, it is unbelievably stupid to have both pilots wearing night goggles at the same time. Keep that kind of foolishness for in the simulator.

  4. Since DCA is owned by the feds, Congress should cut back flight volume and reroute flights to Dulles or Baltimore. This is nuts. You can call it ATC error but we are expecting our ATCs to be superhuman. This is not so much the airline’s fault as it is Congress wanting their special flights always available to fly in and out to their districts on short notice.

  5. The inconvenient truth is that DCA needs to be shut down. It’s of a different era when there was much less traffic in the air. Nearly all similar airports of that era have been shut down nationwide, largely for safety reasons.

  6. Hats off to Controllers, but it’s the Pilot profession that makes that Airport Hum.
More of these professionals need to stop fixing that constant traffic jam with the words…UNABLE.

  7. All those added flights at DCA… Don't think for a second that members of Congress aren't behind a lot of that, looking to add easier options for themselves to get home. Willing to bet many of those were approved without any consideration for the consequences to DCA operations and safety.

    What a terrible tragedy.

  8. Nobody cares enough to solve this one "problem". Our government today could solve this tomorrow, or at least pass a solution that would eventually solve it. A plane crash or a few hundred dead Americans is just fodder for this government. If they truly cared, it would have already been a priority. Is it? What bills have been passed? Which politicians or presidents talk about this? None! Nobody cares about voting for people who do. If you want change then run on it or vote for someone who does care. This was a horrible and needless event for the victims and their families, but I am telling you, nobody cares in government.
