The conservation and recovery of grizzly bears in the United States, particularly within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, has seen significant success since they were listed as a threatened species in 1975. However, this ecological triumph has brought new challenges, as expanding bear populations increasingly intersect with human communities, ranching operations, and recreational areas. Balancing the protection of these apex predators with public safety and local economic interests remains a complex, ongoing debate among wildlife biologists, residents, and policymakers.
- Grizzly bears were designated as a threatened species in the lower 48 states in 1975 due to rapidly declining populations.
- Conservation efforts over the past several decades have successfully increased grizzly bear numbers in recovery zones like the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
- The expansion of grizzly territories has led to more frequent encounters between bears and humans, resulting in conflicts with ranchers and property owners.
- Wildlife managers employ various strategies to mitigate conflicts, including public education, bear-proofing trash receptacles, and using non-lethal deterrents.
- Debates continue regarding whether to remove grizzly bears from the federal endangered species list and hand management authority back to individual states.

Thank you!
It’s ridiculous how we snare or trap them in order for us to “satisfy our curiosity “. This video is very disturbing and I was rooting for the bear to eat the people who put him in that position.
Beautiful
Thats me dressed up as a bear to get free ketamine
I wonder why there are few hybrid bears?
I've seen Kodiak/Grizzly hybrids but not
black bear/ grizzly hybrids. Do they see black
bears as a food source? Are there no equivalent
bears to coy wolves?
Nope. can not support this!
Love them 🐻🐻🐻 bears were there longer then us humans
I can remember an interview with some Federal employee, possibly on 60 minutes, about Grizzlies. He pointed out people in New York City are making policies about bear management. Paraphrasing, he said if Grizzlies were roaming Central Park these people might have a different opinion about how to manage them.
Need to start a hound hunting season, keeps them in check, and less bold around humans.
Fished hunted lived in AK and MT for 25 years I’ve seen them at distances no encounters Thank god Always kept my head on a swivel 😎🍻
Not specifically about bear but what stinks (IMO) are the people who purposely put food out for the deer or the raccoons or elk or (insert animal here). They like to watch the animals and give them names. They desensitize the animals towards humans. Then when the animals become problematic F&G have to euthanize the animal. When you encourage that kind of friendly behavior you’re signing that animal’s death warrant. ‘But that’s Sweetie – she’s our friend!’. No – she’s a wild animal that needs to remain in the wild.
