German General Warns of Urgent Russian Threat to the West

Date:

General Carsten Breuer, Germany’s highest-ranking military officer, has warned that Russia is reconstituting its armed forces at a pace that could allow it to threaten NATO territory within five to eight years. Emphasizing a significant shift in European security, Breuer stressed the necessity for Germany to become “war-ready” by modernizing its military and increasing defense production. This assessment follows Russia’s transition to a war economy, necessitating a strategic pivot for Western allies to ensure credible deterrence and national defense readiness in the face of evolving geopolitical threats.

  • Russia is estimated to be capable of attacking NATO territory in approximately five to eight years based on its current rate of military build-up.
  • German defense officials emphasize the need for a “mental shift” to prioritize national and collective defense over previous international stabilization missions.
  • The Russian military is reportedly producing more equipment, including tanks and missiles, than it is currently losing in the conflict in Ukraine.
  • Germany is implementing the “Zeitenwende” policy to modernize its military and reach the NATO spending target of two percent of GDP.
  • NATO’s eastern flank is being reinforced, which includes the planned permanent stationing of a German brigade in Lithuania by 2027.
  • Effective deterrence is described as requiring both physical military capabilities and the visible political will to utilize them if necessary.

  1. .If you openly label someone as an enemy, you may unintentionally make them more alert, defensive, and strategic—so they prepare even more strongly against you..I thought they are wise. Winter is yet to come🖤

  2. You are assuming that we will still be here in 2029?

Given the situation on the planet and the amount of weapons of mass destruction allong with the sheer stupidity of what you call " leadership," I am surprised that we are still here.

  3. The enemy of EU is US. NATO is not EU. US out and we are safe. US thrive on other countries instability. Some of us are on US payroll as some of US politicians are on the State payroll and control.

  4. Historically speaking. I really think we should worry about Germany militizing itself again. Russia can't even defeat Ukraine, let alone all of NATO. I just think the Krauts should not have too many Panzers again. They have a tendency to put them to use.

  5. In my humble opinion. As bad as putin is when he is pushed out as yeltsin was who and what will take control of power in russia. As corrupt and useless as czar Nicholas was in ww1 look what took over after he was shot dead, STALIN.

  6. Give a wake up call to this general! Russia has got vast ammount of land to manage. She (Russia) would never need more of land territory to manage and add to headaches. So, there was never a threat from Russia to expand in and direction! General got a lot of disorientation in his mind.

  7. Instead of taking care of peoples health and have a good life and pace in the world we go back to fight and kill each other…very smart! Thanks to the leaders of this world…

  8. Nato created the animosity of Russia, not Russia have time to attack Nato. Nato keep expanding to the East, which Nato promised not to do. So, it the Nato started all this problem. Furthermore the Europeans hate Russia and Ukraine simply because they are Orthodox Christians. The European and US missionaries wanted to break the Orthodox Christians, they secceeded in breaking up Ukraine Russian Orthodox Church.

  9. BBC confronting the dark past. The past is in the past. The Wermacht and the Luftwaffe must be strong enough to stand alone against Russia. Because Putin and the Russians will attack Germany and Poland. Now, only Poland is prepared.

  10. This really is horse poo. Basically, military operations since records began were chiefly about resource acquisition of which Europe has little when compared to Russia. On the other hand Europe is a fabulous market, so why would Russia want to kill the 'Golden Goose' by attacking Europe? This general is peddling nonsense and is strategically stuck in Cold War era thinking.

  11. "Twenty-eight years ago, my great-grandfather wrote me a letter. He passed away when I was seven months old. Among other things, he wrote these lines.

  12. Delusional propaganda…..if nato hadn't gang stalked Russia, armed ukraine while scamming the Minsk accords, and aiding Neo-nazis to kill Russians you'd have nothing to fear. Stop attacking people and winging when they fight back !

  13. These world and military leaders want world tension to profit from weapon and fossil fuel conpanies. How about world synergy to tackle food, water and homeless issues? We are all suffering with government spending and debt with taxpayers money pouring into defence. Our children have to pay for it in both tax and as soldiers. Why? Our birt rrates are lowering anyway. Less taxpayers to pay for this trash.

  14. Nice man, but I'm honestly a bit tired of this kind of argumentation. When we (NATO and/or USA) expand militarily, it is to keep the peace or to counter threats. When Russia or China does that, it is to attack us. And so we keep going in circles, we have to talk to the leaders of those countries instead of talking about those countries as if only them are a threat to world peace. The West (led by the USA) does not have a very good reputation itself and our leaders still do not realize or ignore that the people (also here in Europe) see the double standard and the hypocrisy that passes in the news every day. What are our values really?

The common people are concerned about expensive fuel/energy, the expensive housing market, high prices in the supermarket, mass migration, the lack of diplomacy and the war talk of our corrupt politicians, we are concerned about the madman in the White House (and the idiots who support him) and we don't want to be dragged into endless wars that solve nothing.

  15. Russia isn't a threat as long a the EU sticks together, bolster their defences, includes countries like Australia, Canada, Japan and count the US out of NATO. The US is a failed state, and will eventually be a failed empire.
