Former NATO Chief George Robertson Warns of Increasing Global Threats to UK Security

Date:

Former NATO Secretary General Lord Robertson has warned that the United Kingdom faces an increasingly volatile international landscape, citing threats from a “deadly quartet” consisting of Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea. Currently leading a strategic defense review, Robertson argues that the British military has been significantly weakened by previous budget cuts and requires urgent modernization. The review aims to assess the nation’s readiness for potential conflict and ensure that future defense spending is prioritized to meet evolving global security challenges effectively.

  • Lord Robertson is heading a comprehensive Strategic Defence Review commissioned by the UK government.
  • The review identifies a “deadly quartet” of nations—Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea—as primary security threats.
  • Robertson stated that the UK’s Armed Forces have been “hollowed out” due to years of resource constraints.
  • The assessment emphasizes that the global security environment is currently more dangerous and complex than in previous decades.
  • The findings are intended to guide the government in rebuilding military capabilities and ensuring long-term national safety.

  1. They would have attacked and declared a ceasefire. Brother, observe carefully: as soon as they attacked, they would talk about a ceasefire, saying, "I have killed you." When you started killing, they would say, "Sisara." That's what they did in Iran and elsewhere. Even if they acted on their own initiative, there would be no retaliation. When they launched their own propaganda on the path to peace, as happened again now when they tried to enter Iran and conduct a military operation, when they destroyed a village worth $250 million with their uranium-laden planes, they said, "We will finish this," and they agreed to a ceasefire with kid gloves, because the retaliation would be enormous. Let's tie up Iran, and they will regret it. We will stop them for two days and provoke others to attack. You are acting in the same way. Therefore, it is not a matter of considering someone innocent and standing idly by. Whatever type of war is being waged, the same response will be given, says Israel. It all began with that shot during your historic attack on the laboratory and the Lect Mansion. If you don't say so, and you attacked with their permission, then these events are irrelevant. What measures are Lebanon taking now? How many attacks have been carried out against the oil fields? How many were launched by Iranian guided missiles? How much technology has Iran shared, and who was involved? You, too, are acting in secret. In this war, we are leaving no stone unturned, but in times of war, we should neither speak of the truth nor believe it. Today, apart from the naive, no one believes it. Even if they claim that Lebanon has become an integral part of the country, that is false. They said they didn't do it, and next time, they will be held accountable to their people based on the death toll. Whether we act or not, this will never happen again. Today, they will displace Hamas, abandon it, and look the other way. They will enter Iraq. They will be held responsible for some act somewhere. Then, only you will be able to offer them any response, however small.

  2. Britain ignores the obvious belligerent in Europe (Russia) and focuses on Israel. Britain is quite comfortable opposing the only country actual supporting Ukraine in its fight against Europe's enemy (US).
Centuries after, the west still does not understand the middle east and how diplomacy without lurking threat of military might is interpreted as weakness!

  3. To defend this country now all UK Nationals should attend a basic army course in survval and weaponry. Further training for specialized as aptitude shows. It takes years to build tanks, ships even enough drones to compete with Russia. Our manufacturing centres have gone. At least we should be able to defend the home turf.

  4. BS scaremonging ! Trying to scare and convince people to accept the government spending billions!!!! Into the military industry ( the only one which stand ..) despite NO real threat to Uk !! ,while no help to the majority of ordinary people increasingly struggle under heavy taxes and cost of houses and living and bills.

  5. Not safe from what? Warmongers who want to stoke up more overseas conflicts and spend our tax money on bombs and guns whilst cutting our NHS? Fine for this class who no doubt have adequate private health care for themselves and their families. Heaven help us if one of the protagonists in these overseas conflicts we like should actually strike us back.

  6. The Beebs talking dummies are agogged. Only small issue, they forgotten to mention that the Lord, the eminent Robertson, has not quite bothered to mention who is the Barbarian at the gate we must arms ourselves against, and what is the danger that we might be under…but the boys at the Beeb are oh so happy to carry on the shared, they hope it will generate ratings…and who needs intelligent discussion when one can enjoy ratings….?

  7. safe? the fact is the only reason we need a huge standing army is because the population is one heartbeat away from tearing down the houses of parliaent brick by brick and burying our puppet leaders and oligarchs under them. nobody hates britain more than the british public.

  8. No wonder most people have abandon BBC they have no credibility just the usual narrative trying to justify their license …The majority of people look for independent foreign news reliable independents .We know who is in charge of the BBC those sensitive people offended by everything ashamed of none ….

  9. Almost 50 days into a global energy crisis with 1/3 of the world’s fertilizer stuck in Hormuz during planting season and high debt low growth. Now is the time for hard choices not inaction

  10. Britain is suffering for embracing Marxism – it always fails, and it will fail in Britain, the EU and Canada. The war in Iran did not cause this problem, it merely exposed the weakness that was already happening. It is ultimately the fault of the citizens of these countries for voting for the Marxist globalists and large welfare societies.

There is no political solution Britain can make under their current economic system, because the failure in baked into the system itself. Europe & Britain are simply not competitive anymore, and the government’s answer is more regulation, more welfare & social services, and higher taxes on the quickly disappearing working class & more productive members of society.

Ideologically driven policies, especially Marxism’s socialist programs, don’t care about reality, it just mandates accelerating the spiraling down in a race to the bottom. But as the spiral increases, it’s the businesses, entrepreneurs and the rich who will only start escaping in greater numbers to greener pastures – like America.

The only chance the citizens of Europe & Britain have is mass revolt, and a return to traditional capitalism & conservative principles that once catapulted the western economies before the globalists took root.

  11. MOD and their defence contractors just want lucrative defence contracts from the UK government not that anything they ever build ever works. Just look at the Ajax tanks. Total disaster, over budget and never on time with any delivery. They should get very limited money and spend it on drones to defend the UK. We don’t need hundreds of ships the British Empire ended after WW2.

  12. Another one of your BBC producers caught noncing just how prevalent is it over there at your propaganda institution and exactly how many of you are aware? You are in no position to ever dictate moral values to anyone…

  13. It makes one wonder how many senior civil servants are telling Labour ministers the truth about situations. It must have been so much easier for them when the equally pro-Russian party was in power and they were all being paid from the same wallet.

  14. Soon the money you print will be worth just the paper it's printed on. Then even gold would be of no value. You will not be sitting in the comfy studio but fight for food and shelter. It is your globalists that took over and implement more and more restrictions until it will all collapse.

  15. QUESTION
I would be interested to hear whether any funds made available to support Ukraine are being considered as ‘Defense Spending’ and this is why the PM is sitting on the spending review. If the war between Ukraine and Russia finishes then would additional funds be made available for home defense investments?

I understand there is a push for energy consumers to have smart meters and to go on to variable tariffs to make better use of cheaper (renewable) off-peak energy.
