UK Relaxes Proposed Russian Oil Sanctions Amid Rising Fuel Prices

Date:

The United Kingdom has adjusted its planned sanctions on Russian oil maritime transport amid rising global fuel costs and economic concerns. Initially planning to implement a strict ban on insuring vessels carrying Russian crude, the UK government adjusted the measures to allow continued insurance services for shipments to non-EU countries. This policy shift aims to stabilize international energy markets and prevent further domestic fuel price inflation while still attempting to limit Russian energy revenues.

  • The UK government has modified its proposed sanctions targeting maritime insurance for vessels transporting Russian oil.
  • Under the revised rules, British underwriters can continue insuring shipments of Russian oil to countries outside the UK and the European Union.
  • The decision follows concerns that an outright insurance ban would severely disrupt global oil supplies and drive domestic fuel prices higher.
  • The policy change aligns closer with the United States’ approach, which seeks to cap the price of Russian oil rather than completely block its distribution.

  1. Russia’s oil export revenues have continued to rise despite lower production thanks to high oil prices. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) monthly market report for May, Russia’s oil export revenues clocked in at $19.18 billion in April, good for a modest $180 million increase from March but a massive jump of $6.28 billion compared to April 2025. The increase in oil revenues came despite total output falling by 460,000 bpd to 8.8 million bpd, while total exports declined by 90,000 bpd to an average of 7.03 million bpd.

  2. Petrol prices in Russia average around 68 RUB per liter (approximately £0.58 or $0.81 USD). Thanks to large domestic oil reserves and state pricing mechanisms, fuel remains significantly cheaper than global averages.
Current fuel prices per liter break down into the following averages: Gasoline: 67.97 RUB (~£0.58 / $0.96 USD) Diesel: 76.79 RUB (~£0.66 / $0.86 USD) LPG: 30.63 RUB (~£0.26 / $0.34 USD)

  3. Fools don't realise that how does Allah make them fool. Example:
Major mistake about Eid – ul – Azha :
Only Hajj and Umrah performers  ( pilgrimages )  will slaughter animals at  Makkah on Eid day. In Quran there is no responsibility or  duty or obligations for non – performers of Hajj or Umrah ( pilgrimages) or rest of the  Muslims relating to Hajj or Umrah or to sacrifice any animal; Eid – ul – Azha will be observed only by the pilgrimages at Makkah not by the other  Muslims. These non – performers of Hajj  or Umrah or  the  rest  of the  Muslims slaughter animals but don't shave their heads and quarrel for  ( how will the meat be divided? And  how to keep the environment clean after slaughtering?).

    196.  And perform properly ( i.e.  all the ceremonies according to the Ways of Prophet Muhammad ( sm) the Hajj and Umrah ( i.e.  the pilgrimage to Makkah) for Allah.  But if you are prevented ( from completing them), sacrifice a Hady ( animal  i.e.  a sheep , a cow or a camel) such as you can afford, and do not shave your heads until the Hady reaches the place of sacrifice.  And whosoever of you is ill or has ailment in his  scalp ( necessitating shaving) , he must pay a Fidyah ( ransom) of either observing Saum ( fast) ( three days ) or giving Sadaqah ( charity  –  feeding six poor persons) or offering sacrifice ( one sheep). Then if you in safety and whosoever performs the Umrah in the months of Hajj , before ( performing  ) the Hajj,  ( i.e.  Hajj – at – Tamattu  and  and Al – Qiran ), he must slaughter a Hady such as he can afford,  but if he can not afford it,  he should observe Saum ( fast) three days during the Hajj and seven days after his return ( to his home), making ten days in  all. This is for him whose family is not present at Al – Masjid – Al – Haram ( i.e . non – resident of Makkah). And fear Allah much and and know that Allah is Severe in punishment.

  4. why would anyone 'water down Russian oil sanctions'? removing sanctions on Russian oil doesn't increase supply for the markets! that would be the only thing warranting a rethink – but it doesn't do anything of the sort.
the Russians sell every drop of oil they can anyway – it reaches the market whether there are sanctions or not. the only thing 'watering down' or removing sanction do is allowing the Russians to charge higher prices for unsanctioned oil. it fills their pockets with more money to prolong the Ukraine war but it doesn't magically increase the amount of oil on the market. what is wrong with our governments?

  5. Everyone in the world knows Trump

    Trump is a coward.

You lie whenever you open your mouth.

So there's nothing you can do but threaten.

The era of hegemony in the United States was ended by Trump.

  6. Wish the Foreign governments & companies would help us get to the finish line on this multi-state project; to prevent 7 voters in a swing state from deciding the world's fate! With Dem governors & state legislatures it is possible to finally implement the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) – does NOT require an ammendment.
States could join, with a Dem governor, as Virginia just did !  How it Works: Instead of the local winner receiving all of a State's votes, all citizens votes in that State would be added directly to the national total for each candidate. Currently the NPVIC is at 222 EC votes – need 48 more (i think)
Getting rid of Electoral College via the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact WILL increase participation- because many citizens (>70 million) don't bother to vote when they know that their State is 'red or blue' because they think their vote doesn't count. PLUS A Vote for a National Office is not related to a voters' State of residence!
Just need a few more Democrat governors & state legislatures

  7. Lifting sanctions on Russia, DOES NOT INCREASE SUPPLY!!! This will do nothing to lower the price of oil, it will only ensure Russia gets a price per barrel. However, thanks to Ukraines recent attacks on Russias major oil export terminals, the lifting of sanctions wont benefit Russia much anyway. The amount they are exporting is dropping so much that even at an increased price, it will make little difference.

  8. I really couldn't care, and I guarantee the majority of the British population couldn't care either. The people of the UK have been hit hard financially by the Ukraine war and most recently by the mess Trump has caused in the Middle East.
If this bring cheaper diesel to our shores which in turn will lower the cost in hualage, fuel and groceries.
