An Assessment of Ukraine’s Weapon Supplies and Military Capabilities in the War with Russia

Date:

Ukraine is currently facing severe shortages of critical military equipment, particularly artillery ammunition and air defense systems, as it continues to defend against Russian forces. Delays in Western aid, notably from the United States and European allies, have forced Ukrainian frontline troops to ration shells and adopt defensive postures. While some European initiatives aim to procure ammunition from global sources, the gap in supply remains a significant challenge, threatening Ukraine’s ability to hold its defensive lines against ongoing Russian offensives.

  • Ukrainian forces are experiencing acute shortages of 155mm artillery shells and air defense interceptors along the frontline.
  • Delays in Western military aid packages, particularly funding from the United States, have directly impacted Ukraine’s operational capabilities.
  • To compensate for the lack of heavy artillery, Ukrainian troops have increasingly relied on domestic drone production and first-person view (FPV) drones.
  • European nations are attempting to bridge the supply gap through joint procurement initiatives, though immediate delivery times remain a primary concern.
  • The ongoing ammunition deficit has allowed Russian forces to seize the tactical initiative in several key eastern sectors.

  1. This is a remarkably inaccurate report, and far from the great traditions of the BBC. Some examples: Patriot missiles, are required to defend against BALLISTIC missiles, not cruise missiles; the great effectiveness of Ukrainian medium range drone strikes has been against Russian LOGISTICS, not infrastructure, that is what is choking Russian supplies; and it is totally incorrect to say that the US was the largest Ukrainian donor before Trump – it has always been Europe, indeed Germany alone provided more aid to Ukraine, in toto, pre Trump. Clearly the issue that you have been is with the correspondent, who is plainly not qualified to discuss the questions being asked of him.

  2. OMG, Ukrainians are defending themselves. By today's metrics, this makes them genocidal sociopaths. Or does that only apply when a certain religious group is being affected?

  3. The NATO cover-up regarding the catastrophic nuclear threat to Europe exposes the gruesome game.

The Western "victim" regime is trying to destroy Europe with a nuclear catastrophe, using EU and NATO funding and weapons. Think we're safe in uk ,you might want to think again . Shame on everyone supporting Corrupt Nazi terrorists ,

  4. Europe's largest civilian nuclear power plant was hit by a direct air attack for the first time – and the Western "news" media paid no attention whatsoever to the incident, even though the damage could have had catastrophic consequences for the whole of Europe.

Since Russian troops seized the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in March 2022, the massive facility has repeatedly been the target of drone and missile attacks by the NATO-backed Ukrainian regime

  5. Who in the world give you his own license just like that..specially when it comes to highly precious weapon system..that's just stupid to ask..but zelensky thinks that he is the master of universe and he can demand anything

  6. A guy whos selected by BBC for talking about RU military is not firm enough with the topic to know that there is only one ru carrier,
and that it, assuming the soviets could ever get it seaworthy again, couldnt get towed close enough by its team of tugs,
so its planes could participate in the war.

  7. The west i.e. NATO supports Ukrains fight against Russia yet Ukrain is not deemed suitable to be a member of the EU because of it's widely known history of corruption and far right ruling unelected regime. Also Russia has never invaded wester Europe, the British and French empires hav invaded Russia.

  8. BBC,' Focus on the UK, with our problems at home,' And then condemn Starmer and he's stinking Labour Government for'e the misery that they have caused us,'''' And let Ukraine/Russia fight it out among them selfs,' as what they have been doing for the past 750 odd years-'''😐

  9. The British people need weapons to fight our perfidious state that has been successfully infiltrated, corrupted, and distorted against the wills of its own English, Welsh, Scottish, and Irish people.

  10. But to people of Ukraine surrender is very painful than fighting
Hit creamea hit it and make life unbearable there
    Russia will loose
    Ukraine stand up no surrender
