Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham Outlines His Economic Plan

Date:

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has outlined a comprehensive economic plan aimed at driving regional growth through increased devolution and targeted infrastructure investment. The strategy focuses on key pillars, including the expansion of the publicly controlled Bee Network transport system, the creation of the Greater Manchester Baccalaureate (MBacc) to enhance technical education, and initiatives to raise housing and employment standards. By securing more localized decision-making powers from the central government, the plan seeks to foster job creation, improve regional connectivity, and address economic disparities.

  • The economic plan prioritizes transport integration through the “Bee Network,” bringing local buses and eventually rail services under public control to improve reliability and lower fares.
  • It introduces the Greater Manchester Baccalaureate (MBacc) as a clear technical education pathway aimed at aligning young people’s skills with the needs of local employers.
  • The strategy advocates for further devolution of power from the national government, particularly concerning funding for post-16 education and local housing regulations.
  • The proposals include measures to tackle poor housing conditions by introducing a local “Good Landlord Charter” and expanding enforcement powers against substandard housing.
  • The vision emphasizes fair employment practices, encouraging regional businesses to commit to the Real Living Wage and eliminate insecure zero-hours contracts.

  1. Serves all of you right, you lot have this man dressed as the second coming.
Burnham cannot part the sea like Moses and he's realizing very quickly that he cannot do anything any different to Starmer.
Unless he borrows more throwing the UK into more debt or taxing you lot, they'll be zero change.
Fiscal rules, nope he doesn't know what it is, the media knows that but are too afraid to admit as they've been pushing for Starmer out Burnham in.
Burnham is just a window dresser and a talker.
