An Overview of the New UK Prime Minister’s Proposed Tax Policies

Date:

The newly elected UK government has outlined its fiscal strategy, focusing on targeted tax adjustments to fund public services while ruling out increases to major taxes. The administration plans to raise revenue through specific measures, including ending the non-domiciled tax status, imposing VAT on private school fees, and increasing the windfall tax on oil and gas companies. The government maintains that fostering economic growth, rather than implementing broad tax hikes on working people, remains the primary vehicle for revitalizing public services.

  • The UK government has committed to not increasing income tax, National Insurance, or VAT.
  • Revenue will be raised by abolishing the non-domiciled tax status for wealthy offshore residents.
  • A 20% VAT will be applied to private school tuition fees to help fund state education.
  • The windfall tax on oil and gas companies will be increased and extended to support energy transition initiatives.
  • The administration plans to close the carried interest tax loophole utilized by private equity managers.
  • Fostering national economic growth is positioned as the primary strategy to sustainably fund public services over the long term.

  1. The only thing I'm scared about is IF Farrage gets into power.

    Lemme explain

I'm an autistic gay man who works as hard as my limits will take me for a living and I have a fiance who is from the USA.
I wish to marry him and adopt 2 autistic children to help give them a better chance at life

I feel though as Reform UK will force my country to take everything that I am working hard for including making same-sex marriage illegal, allowing my boss to fire me just for my existence and raising the threshold of what I need to do to a point impossible for me to reach.

All I want is a simple life, to be a good person and yet I fear that will all be stolen away because of the insecurities of others.
Why does the country I was raised in want to sabotage my freedom and my right to be happy? What have I done to anyone?

  2. We stayed at a hotel this weekend where there was a wedding being held. The staff told us the cost was £55,000 and the guests rolled up in Lamborghinis and Bentleys. Meanwhile people can’t afford to buy food and pay their electric bill. I don’t know what’s going on, the gulf between rich and poor seems to be widening.

  3. He’ll do exactly what his masters tell him no spine, no independence. Like the rest, he’ll ram through mass surveillance for #TechnoFascist foreign companies under the pretense of “protecting kids,” while gutting the economy, pensions, and housing. Cheer on illegal wars and genocide… the usual, trivial business.

  4. Wealth tax!?!?! Not mentioned!!!!! How weird,,never brought up by right wing Billionaires media. It’s actually the only way we will to be able to tackle wealth inequality and the only way to get us out of years of austerity, corruption and failed trickle down economics, Billionaires don’t give a dam about the rest of us!

  5. I hate it when Reeves defends her record with her soundbyte lines. When you step in when inflation is at its highest for years you would expect inflation to fall, wages to rise faster (catch up) etc. Her tax policy destroyed service industry jobs and she knows it, meanwhile government funded jobs were expanded to fill the gap and make things look better than they were. Burnham doesn't need tips from her or the Tories that's for sure

  6. We the UK are paying 650 million a day in debt every single days ..most if not all government assets were sold during the urge to privatise era…as Liz Truss has told us all she or whomever is in. No10 is hostage to the bond markets and men in grey suits …we turned our back on manufacturing even with the rise of china there is scope for other nations Korea Japan Germany still have considerable industrial capacity. We have becomes a service sector economy and as Donald trump will tell you that doesn't make a country great again ..I wish Andy best but public are not amused and angry

  8. Maybe he could bother to raise the Inheritance Tax nil-rate band – stuck on £325,000 since 2009 except for parents who our always-parent-Chancellors gave a 54% uplift to.

This allowance was supposed to be raised every year in line with inflation for everyone. That was the design of the tax – annual CPI increase in line with inflation. Not, frozen for decades by corrupt dishonest married-with-kids Chancellors who let their own category of taxpayer (parents) off the hook (£1M allowance for them!) and steal more and more tax from the estates of everyone else through the tax system because they cynically and dishonestly can.

There's no incentive to work hard and accumulate wealth if it gets heavily taxed when you earn it, and then systematically stolen at a 40% tax rate on death. Why bother working hard if they just take it all off you with tax after tax?
