Donald Trump Drops Threat of 20% Fee on Strait of Hormuz Cargo

Date:

Donald Trump has withdrawn his proposal to impose a 20% fee on cargo vessels navigating through the Strait of Hormuz. The initial suggestion aimed to charge international shipping companies to offset the costs of U.S. military patrols securing the strategic waterway. Following concerns regarding the impact on global trade and energy markets, the plan has been discarded, easing anxieties over potential cost increases for goods transported through the vital maritime route.

  • Donald Trump has abandoned his threat to impose a 20% tariff on shipping cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
  • The proposed fee was intended to compensate the United States for securing the international shipping lanes with its military presence.
  • The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime choke points, essential for global oil and liquefied natural gas transit.
  • The reversal follows widespread concern over the potential for increased consumer prices and disruptions to international trade networks.

  1. Why can't these "endangered" countries start standing up for themselves and quit hiding their heads in the sand. The IRGC will attack anyone for any reason so long as they can keep their shakedown mafia tactics working. "We won't shoot at you if you give us money."

  2. Iran will ripp his skin off. Slowly and painfully. Not just him but Netanyahoo too. These two will end up worst then General Paulus and Marcus Crassus. Those tiny sheikdoms around should start paying Tributes to Iran if they wish to keep riding ferraris and keep running their Casinos and Cabarets.

  3. As an American who actually reads history, I'm humiliated that my gvt has gone pirate and rouge. Millennia of civilizations have built power on freedom of navigation. That paradigm will outlive our stupid… idiotic.. president

  4. The fee announced by the Prez is well justified, as it is only the US which has had to keep Iran at bay from usurping command and control of the SOH illegitimately, and illegally too, incurring in the process enormous expense. Most global nations using the SOH for maritime merchandise have not supported the US for the cause. The US is spendimg enormous money for giving protection to vessels silling to transit the waterway. And it goes without saying that the fee, imposed only to realise the protection expenditure, and not for profit, shall have to be reimbursed to the US, by the ship owners for free, safe transiting of their vessels through the Strait.
