Ecuadorian Police Target Gangs, Illegal Firearms, and Corruption in Ongoing Drug Crackdown

Date:

Ecuador is facing an escalating security crisis as police forces combat powerful criminal gangs, illegal firearms trafficking, and systemic corruption tied to the international drug trade. Positioned between major cocaine-producing regions, the country’s coastal ports have increasingly become critical transit routes for global narcotics smuggling. In response to rising violent crime and institutional infiltration, law enforcement agencies are intensifying targeted operations against gang networks to restore public safety and order across affected urban centers.

  • Law enforcement agencies in Ecuador are expanding operations to disarm organized criminal gangs and dismantle illegal weapons networks.
  • Ecuador’s coastal ports have turned into major international transit hubs for cocaine bound for North America and Europe.
  • Institutional corruption poses a major obstacle to anti-narcotics efforts, complicating police interventions and judicial proceedings.
  • Government authorities continue to deploy security forces to high-crime areas to stabilize homicide rates and restore public security.

  1. Police Corruption Perceptions Index

Regional Ranking: On the specific Police Corruption Perceptions Index, Ecuador ranks 57th globally with a score of 6.19/10 (where 10 is the most corrupt).

Comparison: This places Ecuador's police force as perceived more corrupt than those in Chile (4.15) and Uruguay (4.88), but less corrupt than in Colombia (7.38) and Peru (7.63).

  2. Just wondering when the BBC will cover the abduction and torture by the US of supposed “drug dealers” and the assassination of the prosecutor in Ecuador investigating it?

  3. Usaly you have gangs when the police no longer provides security. Declaring war on the population is not the solution. Either they go the mega prison route … or you put the gangs in charge and have them police … officially. … police like this, obviously isn't the solution

  4. I'm a recovering addict, only 4 weeks and 4 days clean. This won't stop the drugs. You can't have a war on drugs. Decriminalisation and education with health care supporting addicts is what we need. To have it done correctly like Portugal have done. The stats speak for themselves

  5. history like repeat…..if some people still think i dont care its not our problem ….so answer is still the same like during the ww1 and ww2 it is every single country in the world will pay for it if not now iam sure soon🤫
