Health leaders in the United Kingdom have warned that National Health Service (NHS) services for autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are facing severe operational strain due to unprecedented demand. Waiting times for assessments now frequently extend to several years, leaving both children and adults without timely support. Service leaders report that the existing model of care is unsustainable and are calling for an overhauled national strategy focused on community support, early intervention, and updated clinical pathways.
- Referrals for ADHD and autism assessments have increased substantially, outpacing the current capacity of specialist NHS services.
- Patients frequently experience waiting times of several years to receive a formal diagnosis and subsequent care.
- Healthcare leaders warn that the system’s reliance on traditional assessment frameworks is contributing to major service bottlenecks.
- Proposed solutions include expanding early intervention in schools and primary care, as well as establishing a unified national strategy to manage demand.

Yo
Not sure which is funnier, a junkie running healthcare, or the Americans that actually believe his shite. Hahaha Americans making stupidity great again
they will deny it exists so they can circumvent coverage.
The "Independent ADHD Taskforce: Part 1" (NHS, 2025) concluded that ADHD is significantly underdiagnosed and undertreated in England, rather than overdiagnosed. It also highlighted how leaving ADHD unsupported costs the UK economy around £17 billion each year due to lost work, educational struggles, and higher health and justice costs. Why are the results from the Independent ADHD Taskforce being omitted from this podcast?
To provide the missing context, the newly formed 'NHS Alliance' – whose opinion this news video thinks matters – was formed from the merger of two campaign groups. They are not "NHS bosses", merely activists always begging for more taxpayer cash on top of the £200bn a year England healthcare budget.
In a world in which we mistakenly instruct our children to allow their minds to wander aimlessly, and to let their imaginations run wild. It can hardly come as a surprise to find out that so many grow up to have ADHD (lack a good length of attention span). Who can't keep their mind 'Still/Quiet' for an extended period of time. After all, they can't be 'Not Thinking' (Attentive), and 'Thinking Uncontrollably' at the same time.
Best wishes 🙏
Eh. Make private diagnosis be paid by the person requesting it be done.
Consider it a non emergency and dont fund cover for it.
Fake illness
ADHD IS SPOILT BRATT SYNDROME
Putting ADHD and Autism aside, it's important to remember that…
The DNA of the egg and sperm degrades from the age of 35
This increases the risk of conceiving a child with a disability
Raising a child with a disability is much more expensive (education, healthcare…)
ADHD 2026 = I can’t find constructive actives for my kids 💯
What skills are expected of the parents of a child with special needs:
Mental clarity, love, patience, time, vitality, emotionally stable, physically healthy…
Raising a special needs kid requires more money, and good family support
These children are very often treated with hostility by their parents
The NHS doesn't have enough ADHD or Autism specialist assessors. They all seem to be going private for some reason. So either the NHS doesn't offer jobs in these specialised areas or the assessors themselves want more money than the NHS offers. Simple.
I think a lot of people are falsely diagnosed too
the real question should be why are so many people struggling enough in this society to feel the need to pursue a diagnosis of a mental health condition or neurodivergency? as someone who has struggled with anxiety and OCD, neurodivergencies and mental health conditions are challenging at the best of times, but especially in times of isolation and stress. everyone is under pressure right now to find jobs in a sparse job market; find community in a world which favours isolation; and build a life in a world where it has never been more difficult to keep up with cost of living. instead of ruminating on the validity of these ADHD diagnosises, which are assessed by professionals in the subject using decades of research, we should see this rise of diagnosises instead as a reflection of how unforgiving and inhumane modern life has become, wherein which only a small percentage of people can find the capacity to cope without intervention from a specialist.
I had Autism Spectrum Disorder
As a 'strong' ADHDer I can firmly say: AI is the problem. ADHD and Autism are two conditions that contributed to genius developments in humanity, but both are a blocker for AI Tech corps:
1. Unpredictable, regardless of geniality. LLMs are trained towards a very predictable sociaty.
2. ADHD'ers and Autism cannot be instructed or included in LLM training: no matter how many trillions of parameters and unlimited context being developed (context = ability for an AI to stay aligned), ADHDers (talking from my experience now) 'see through them'
Everyone I have a conversation with during which my brain shoots in all different directions and sub-questions with some effort will understand the connections and 'interesting points of view'. LLMs indeed have bigger context, but completely are inable to grasp the essence and are built for sycophancy.
There is a lot of fuzz about prompt hacking and jailbracking of AI's, well I can tell you that after 10-15 chats as an ADHD'er suddenly any LLM is jailbroken and utterly confused.
1) ADHD and Autism are not mental health conditions so stop stating that they are.
2) you do not get pip simplify having a diagnosis of ADHD or Autism. That is simply a false statement. You have to explain in great detail over many questions how it effects you on a daily basis.
It means going into real personal detail and often feels humiliating having to justify your existence.
Autism, developmental delays and intellectual disabilities are much higher in the UK because all British are related to one another.
I'm not British or live in England but the same thing is going on in America. Even after getting a diagnosis which is a nightmare to try to get, there aren't many resources after that. Especially if you are female and an adult.
