Taking territory in Lebanon gives Israel a very strong hand in any future negotiaions. That's how Israel secured a peace deal with Egypt after they took over Sinai and used it as a strong card in negotiotions. Peace in return for land is a successsful strategy.

Lebanon has been a serial attacker and Israel had only defended itself all long. Lebanon rejected repeatedly all offers of peace. This is the historical truth. The Lebanese and arab masses have been subjected to brainwashing and falsification of history. They live in alternate delusional reality, under dictatorial regimes and failed states that feed the hatred of an external "ennemy" to remain in power and pillage the resources.
