The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a regional political and economic union consisting of 15 countries located in West Africa. Established to promote regional integration and collective self-sufficiency, the bloc plays a critical role in mediating political crises, managing security challenges, and fostering diplomatic cooperation among its member states. As the region navigates complex transitions, including military coups and shifting geopolitical alliances in the Sahel, ECOWAS remains a central authority in addressing regional stability, democratic governance, and economic development.
