The Potential Impact of a Trump Presidency on Cuba’s Economy

Date:

Cuba is currently facing one of its most severe economic crises in decades, characterized by chronic shortages of food, fuel, and electricity. The potential return of Donald Trump to the U.S. presidency raises significant concerns regarding the future of the island’s economy. During his previous term, Trump implemented a “maximum pressure” campaign, reversing Obama-era detente policies, restricting travel and remittances, and placing Cuba back on the state sponsor of terrorism list. A continuation or escalation of these policies could further destabilize Cuba’s fragile economy and accelerate mass migration.

  • Cuba is enduring its worst economic downturn in decades, marked by widespread power outages, high inflation, and severe shortages of basic goods.
  • During his first term, Donald Trump reversed Obama-era diplomatic openings, enacting over 240 new sanctions and returning Cuba to the state sponsor of terrorism list.
  • The Biden administration left the majority of these “maximum pressure” policies in place, continuing to limit tourism and financial transactions.
  • The ongoing economic instability has triggered a historic migration crisis, with hundreds of thousands of Cubans leaving the country.
  • Analysts suggest that a second Trump administration could impose even stricter sanctions, further threatening Cuba’s access to foreign currency and essential imports.

  1. For all of the people commenting on this board, I would like to ask each of you, "Have you ever been to Cuba?" Have you been to Cuba within the last 3 years? If the answer is No then ask yourself, if the govt raised $32Million in 2023 and again in 2024 that was supposed to go to the Healthcare system and yet the govt hasn't accounted for any of that money nor have the Cuban people received any of that Healthcare support so the govt can blame the U.S. but for those who have been to Cuba recently know that its not just the U.S. sanctions

  2. The US doesn’t care how many people die in Cuba because of their blockade.
Iran has stood up to them and I’ve no doubt the Cuban people will do the same.
    Viva Cuba.

  3. Cuban here , the Cuban government needs to go. We need freedom in Cuba. Before the sanctions from US poverty was there because a failure economic system but the Cuban government has lots of money and Castro family live very well. Civil rights aren’t respected. This documentary do not touch how the Cuban government attacks the citizens just for talking what is going on. Cubans needs an intervention to remove the PCC

  4. Annex Cuba!!! Make it unincorporated US territory like Puerto Rico. Give the land back to the citizens who had it stolen by the murderous communist dictators, and let US farming invest in the island to get those poor people back to work and be productive. Then, turn Guantanamo into a fully capable US Naval base, so the USA can properly control the caribbean.
