The Impact of ‘Super El Niño’ Events on Global Extreme Weather Disasters

Date:

A powerful El Niño climate pattern is significantly altering global weather systems by driving ocean temperatures to record highs across the equatorial Pacific. Combined with baseline global warming, this phenomenon intensifies extreme weather events worldwide, contributing to prolonged droughts, severe heatwaves, and catastrophic flooding. The resulting disruptions to atmospheric circulation patterns strain agricultural production, impact water infrastructure, and heighten the frequency and severity of natural disasters across multiple continents.

  • El Niño conditions develop when weakening trade winds allow warm water to accumulate in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean, shifting global atmospheric jet streams.
  • A “Super El Niño” is characterized by sea surface temperature anomalies rising significantly higher than standard El Niño thresholds.
  • The climate pattern drives heightened rainfall and flood risks in parts of North and South America while causing severe dry spells and wildfire conditions in Australia, Southeast Asia, and parts of Africa.
  • Elevated ocean temperatures threaten marine ecosystems, causing extensive coral bleaching events and altering fish migration patterns.
  • The compounded effect of El Niño and ongoing climate trends continues to push global average temperatures toward unprecedented highs.

  1. It took less than a minute for this film to declare that the world is 1.4 degrees Celsius hotter due to human caused climate change. That’s a false and flawed statement so many levels. May as week just say this all propaganda.

  2. It’s gonna cost more solely due to inflation. Nice try. 😂 the European countries are paying the price for their Industrial Revolution era. So it’s fair now. Plus the other countries that experience flooding ? Adapt. Lots of water now for the people. No water, complain. Too much water, complain. Humans can never be happy.

  3. Isn’t this glorious?

Wall Street’s ‘net zero’ climate push collapses as US banks flee do-gooder alliances.
    By Ariel Zilber

Excerpt: Wall Street’s support of “net zero” climate initiatives has collapsed as major US banks and money managers have bolted from do-gooder environmental coalitions, according to a report.

All six major US banks — JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley and Wells Fargo — have quit the Net Zero Banking Alliance, according to the new study from the Committee to Unleash Prosperity.

The exodus helped cripple the once-powerful group, which had 140 member banks representing $75.5 trillion in combined assets as recently as November 2024.

The alliance ended operations as a membership organization in October of last year and now provides voluntary climate guidelines, the report noted.

Overall, banks’ support of “net zero” causes plunged nearly 90% over the past four years, according to the Committee to Unleash Prosperity.

  4. I'm currently in Europe and the Danube river is so critically low (lower than ever) that Hungary and Romania has to switch off their nuclear plants in the past forthnight… climate change is real and the financial cost cannot be ignored anymore.

  5. Drill, baby, drill… If anyone still doesn’t see the connection between burning fossil fuels and the growing frequency and intensity of flooding and heat waves, they’re either ignoring the evidence or simply not paying attention. We’re relying on local news organizations to sound the alarm—and they need to do it loudly…. are you awake?

  6. This current Elnino just started. This winter will be different for everyone. Where I live in south Ontario I expect we will rarely reach the freezing mark through Dec. Jan. Feb. 2027 will start as the warmest the world has seen (on average) that modern humans have endured. I hope "they" are wrong. I hope I am wrong.
