Zelensky Proposes Mutual Halt to Strikes on Energy Infrastructure

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has suggested that a mutual agreement to halt strikes on energy infrastructure could represent a significant step toward de-escalating the conflict with Russia. Zelensky indicated that if both nations agreed to stop targeting power grids and merchant shipping, it could lead to the conclusion of the war’s most active phase. While emphasizing that Ukraine’s long-term territorial goals remain unchanged, he expressed openness to these specific measures as a means to reduce the immediate humanitarian and economic impact of the ongoing hostilities.

  • President Zelensky proposed a mutual cessation of attacks on energy facilities and power grids.
  • The proposal includes ensuring the safety of merchant vessels and grain corridors in the Black Sea.
  • Zelensky suggested that such an agreement could serve as a first step toward a broader de-escalation of the war.
  • Ukraine maintains that any final peace settlement must involve the restoration of its internationally recognized borders.
  • The potential for an energy-focused ceasefire may depend on international mediation and diplomatic engagement.

  1. Russia has a perverse incentive here. The more Ukraine hits their energy infrastructure, the more the price of oil rises. Which means more money for the oil Russia does export. So even if oil volumes fall, Russia can make more money from what it does get out.

  2. Love it…

  5. Zelensky received signals from his Western allies about the need to curtail attacks on the Russian oil sector, and only then decided to approach Russia with a supposedly mutually beneficial agreement. He's a cheap clown.
